DX9.1, wtf?

As far as I know there is no DX9.1 but if there is one can assume its prolly gonna require PS3.0 / VS3.0 support if it ever comes about I don't think its would be anything new just some new minium requirements and maybe newer HLSL compiler targets.

I believe it all started when some hardware site said there would be a massive preformance jump on NV3X cards when DX9.1 comes out.

Dave posted here that week what he thinks about DX 9.1 ( citation from memory) : "DX 9.1 is a myth".

Nice sum up no ? :p

Someone started throwing DX9.2 around at me a few days ago as well!

Basically, whats being referred to fo the most part is the VS/PS_2_a profile for the VS/PS2 extended features of GeForce FX - this already became available as aprt of the summer update to DX9's SDK and is part of the DX9.0b redistributable.

Thanks all, that fits in nicely with what I thought was going on too. (DX9.2 Dave? I betcha it was someone talking about something to do with nVidia too. )

Anyone remember which site started this rumor? I do smell the makings of a decent little article in this... ;)

I recal someone posting (and still posting to this day) the fabled Direct X 9.1 over at Futuremark. And of course, many people there take it as gospel truth.

Follow-up: I'm also assuming that there is absolutely nothing behind the "PS 3.0 is going to need FP32!" other than some wet nVidia dreams?

Article is wortheless; It s just claims without any source linked anyway.

I tried to explain to the PCI guy that it was just BS but he didn't want to correct his article... Why ? "because it isn't his job to analyze and verify the information. his job is only to give readers the information someone has given to him" ...

The source is NVIDIA. I think that NVIDIA was a little bit 'ambiguous' when talking him about DX revision and the guy has misunderstood all the the story. As "its job is not to verify the information"...

I asked them on the forum if they had any source and they said an "internal source" (lol) and linked two articles posted in july on hardware.fr and x-bit labs when the rumor started with the launch of some nvidia card.
