Dragon Age III: Inquisition. Standard official discussion thread [XO,PS4,PS3,X360]

There are no healers. Only various potions.
Also, the levels of most enemies are scaled to be roughly in line with your own, so the satisfaction of becoming god-like later on is unlikely to happen.

I know that there are no healers...just this barrier caster, which is at least some form of protection.
Up to now (level 7 here), there are many regions in Hinterland where I get quite a hefty beatup! So...?

move on ;) go to Val Royeaux!!

You come back to the hinter lands anyway ;) Storyline demands it.

Just hit near the end of Act 1. Now I can say this game is epic. It was a good game before, but on hour 15+ this game came off the runway and is now flying finally.

First time I played the game, after some >3 hours I encountered a bug where I was being treated by NPCs as a woman although I chose a male hero.
Clearly, this was a way for EA/Bioware to punish me for questioning harassing women online using my privilege as a straight male in a society ruled by patriarchy, by putting me on the skin of a Fereldan transsexual.
Further research on the bug showed me that it would also affect other storyline options, as later on I would only be able to romance straight/bissexual men or gay/bissexual women, and I would always be treated as a woman henceforth. No Cassandra romance for me, at least.
Oh well, I had it coming...

After a couple of days waiting for EA to forgive me and launch a patch fix my game, I decided to just start again. This time I was greeted with mercy from the Social Justice Gods and they let me play as an actual male.

First thing I have to say is that FrostByte 3 with Mantle seems to be working great to me (as it did with BF4, btw). Visuals, performance and stability are top notch for me so far. Alt+Tab works flawlessly in this game. Graphics really are beautiful.
My one and only gripe with the game so far is facial animation. It's really lacking. It seems to be inferior to the previous games. Cassandra, even if she's supposed to be a cold bitch strong, independent and deservingly authoritarian woman, she shows the same exact face every single time! Either she's slaying monsters, doing small talk doing quests, discussing strategies at a table, etc., her face seems to be completely frozen. I think Bianca has shown more emotion than Cassandra, so far.

This stood out to me as well, just from the videos. The animations ... old-school.

Is this thing safe to buy on the PC yet? or is it a traditional bioware PC game where I need to give it 6months first?

Yesterday, I had some really tough fights...against a Wizard who was apparently level 11 or so, as he dropped level 11 gear...unfortunately I am just hit level 9...imo, levelling is quite slow. And the perks you choose don't have such a dramatic impact atm...maybe I am doing it wrong?!

Are you going full force in one magic tree, or are you spreading it out across multiple trees...which one is the best magic attack tree?

I'm still level 5 and keep getting level 10 drops :(

So currently I'm still using my default armor.

This game loot is even weirder than Destiny

I always provide my magic users with at least a couple of defensive options. Mind blast is a really helpful skill for example, and barrier is really good too. As for other classes: I think the archery tree is worth maxing out entirely, but you really shouldn't combine it with close combat skills such as grapple. The last thing you want is for your archer to get right in the midst of the action.

I've just hit level 16 (the whole party as well). It's been pretty epic so far and I've only encountered a couple of bugs but nothing game breaking. Started crafting my own masterwork weapons and runes which is making the smaller fights a lot easier. I've met up with a couple of bad guys that have well and truly kicked my butt and I'm saving those for later. It's definitely a big step up from Origins but the open world aspect is still very lacking compared to Elder Scrolls, it infuriates me when my character can't even climb over a tree root without having to jump and look like a monkey in the process. Also mapping action and jump to the same button is really annoying. Jumping in a fight to get clear only to find yourself looting a dead guy with your arse in the air like a giant target is just not heroic!

Do you never hear ambient music? You may have hit a bug.

That's what happens to me. I thought the game is weird, super quieter.

For pure damage output (consistently) combos do the most damage in the game. But it's possible that the mage mines can likely rack you a much larger alpha.

So you need to use something to incapacitate an enemy, and then fire off a combo spell. Each tree for the mage more or less does the same thing. All trees have 1 method to incapacitate a foe, and they have a combo spell.

Fire -> Fear
Lightning -> Paralysis
Ice -> Chill/frozen
Physical/Rift -> Stunned

Different mobs have different immunities so going down one entire tree will not necessarily help you each fight.
Each tree also has utility spells that aren't found in other trees.
Ice -> Fade step + Mana Regen
Fire -> Critical hits allow for no cooldown on next spell
etc

So you're aiming for a combination of things, but I'd say until you specialize, I wouldn't bother investing allt he way down the tree. Luckily you can respec at the armory. And you will likely respec after you choose your final party and specializations, so it's not to worry for now unless you are having difficulties progressing in the game atm.

I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm just aimlessly running around to different waypoints in the hinterlands (?) doing the most staggeringly menial tasks or getting killed by bears (leading a slow moving buffalo across the map was a truly transcendent gameplay experience....)

It's like a single player MMO with more animation bugs :p although it would be nice to know what I'm actually supposed to be doing. I can't figure the quest menu.

I you jump and talk to the task lady at camp (with the same button press), then you can get stuck in the falling animation. You can hover around the entire map flailing your arms :p

Ok so this discussion has left me totally confused about buying this game. I like Bioware games, and adore the Witcher. DA:O was ok but too repetitive. I didn't buy the sequel because it seemed to have the worst from Origins.

And I hate MMO's!

I love this game so far! I also like the main missions...very cool! I am curious when I unlock the specialization quests for my mage!

Haven't played, but Hinterlands is the tutorial area. You shouldn't stay there too long, or you will OP yourself. Just look up what you need to leave if you're not sure yet, because the game really opens up after that, and just about everything stays open for you to return to once unlocked.
