Destiny [PS3,X360,PS4,XO]

@Rangers
that place on hill is only safe and great if you play solo.
if solo, usually you will only get a bit hit by Prist's shotgun.

if co-op, usually the sniper will spot you and the priest will walk around out of view area.

@NRP
you can push praetorian by RPG (it can push back and push them off the ledge).
using grenade to distract praetorian also good.

if praetorian reaaaaly too close to the platform, run to him, punch him, and keep running straight. Usually he will angry and start chasing you, away from the platform.

but the best way is simply open the VoG door alone. 100% done in about 5 minutes :D

@tranner
if playing on VoG normal, its very doable with only 5 people. but for hard... man... really need 6 skilled player.

I've done several nightfalls/weeklies solo, with two people and with 3 people, and it definitely seems like the difficulty gets ramped up with more people. Others I've played with felt the same.

Cant agree. That's why you see so many begging for teammates for nightfall...VoG and nightfall are the two main things people team for.

The difficulty is higher, but 3X the firepower AND the fact all 3 have to die for game over are immeasurable.

Now if it's a crappy team, maybe they can be a hindrance.

The one nightfall I did with a team vs solo I couldn't believe how much easier the team way was...that was when I made that post about how no wonder you guys said the nightfall wasn't bad...turns out it wasn't...in a team.

Speaking of, was soloing the fall just now and died right at the end to minor enemies (just before the boss comes out) just due to carelessness, sigh.

For hunter, I noticed you really need "Path Unknown" activated in the skill tree (it raises your armor and drops some other stats). When I rush my alts to 20 it's not quite there. But playing before I get that one, there's a very significant difference (I think I can blame it for my nightfall fail, heh). It's too easy to get killed without it. I also noticed snipers will one-shot you in hard raid without it...The difference between getting one-shot by a certain attack, and not, is ginormous.

Also, the under the platform thing does work (used it to beat the weekly) Archon would not move for me that first time I used it, must have been a bug.

Strangely, I'm having some difficulty at the very beginning of the raid, where you build the spire. The damn Praetorians get onto the platform before I can kill them. I don't really have trouble killing them, it's just that I can't kill them before they teleport onto the platform and erase all our progress. This is bad because the longer you take to build the spire, the more intense the enemy waves become.

My void Swarm isn't really cutting it here. I guess I should have bought Truth last week. It seems a lot of people use rockets here, and the high velocity and strong tracking of the Truth would probably help me here. You guys have any suggestions? People get frustrated because this is supposed to be easy, and I feel like I'm letting my team down here.

Ehh, dunno what to say to that, just keep trying I guess, you will get better, it took me many times to become not-terrible at the raid.

Everybody's different but I prefer a void machine gun to a rocket launcher in raid. RL's too risky up close.

I do have Atheons Epilogue which is void and may be helping me in plate defense, but i think it's a pretty crap gun besides that and I think I'm switching to Vision of Confluence in raid.

It's pretty hard to stop some of the pratorians when they teleport aggressively. Often you'll get lucky and they wont trigger the plate anyway as they shoot by it. As a last ditch I'll often use my super (course, I'm a hunter, may differ for other classes). You should have a teammate that will do a lot of the work as well, it's not all on you either way. Either way, the sync plates shouldn't be more than an annoyance really.

So I dont know what to suggest except keep trying and learning, and level that void MG to 300 when you get time as well if it's not.

@Rangers
something definetely weird... my stats for hunter is balanced between the 3 stats. with armor the lowest. im still level 29 and sniper on hard mode need 2 shots to kill me.

but my teammates die in ONE shot. From you explanation, it seems you also die in 1 shot?

i wonder whats wrong with my character.

I dont normally die in one sniper shot...what I noticed is when I didnt have "path unknown" perk (which increases armor and decreases other stats) activated for one hard raid with my alt, I did. Confused me a bit at first. When I rush my alts to 20, path unknown isn't unlocked yet, which is why I didn't have it on.

I set up all my training perks to maximize armor first and recovery second, while not caring about agility, because as I understand it that's best strategy, that's what somebody in raid chat said anyway and it seems true.

But about you character...hmm, that's weird. No idea.

Seems like XBox Live is having issues. I keep getting disconnected with the "hawk" network error. Seems like a lot of other people are too.

Is the PS4 experiencing any such issues?

Sorry, I didn't mean it's harder with 3 people, just the difficulty level is increased with more people. Aside from that, there are variables as you say, such as how good your teammates are etc. I actually beat this week's nightfall solo, with 2 people and with 3 people. It was pretty easy all 3 times. Although I struggled a bit with my Titan because I was under-armed and I kept the same play style as if I was heavily armed.

I'd say it can be just as easy solo, if the particular mission has good spots. It might just take a bit more time. Obviously it's a lot more risky doing it solo because there's no one to revive you and the mission will end once you die. But if you're a warlock, you can self-revive.

On another note, I did the raid for the second time this week with my hunter and my RNG luck has run dry it seems. Got all ascendant materials, my 7th chatterwhite and a hunter cloak. yay! Hoping to run it again with my Titan.

Pretty funny how I joined this raid group. I was just patrolling Venus and saw 5 people doing the raid. I decided to help them form the spire and they invited me to join.

Get off the plate when you're defending. Only Praetorians take over the plate, and as long as they come chasing you and not after the plate the spire doesn't get reset. Using a fusion rifle instead of a sniper rifle also helps as they don't have weak spots.

@NRP
yeah destiny disconnect far too often. and its not normal disconnect that boot you to orbit. it boot you out to start screen.

yesterday i keep getting that a few times in a row. then suddenly it went fine for a while. then BAM! it kicks me out to start screen again. Ugh i give up.

EDIT:
btw the problem is not only in destiny

i was text-chat with @djskribbles but no text came through. finally in about 11PM, i got bombarded by @djskribbles message on PSN that says 4 hours ago :/

Loot updates, for the nightfall (finally!) on my alt/3rd I got a legendary scout...crypt dweller SR1. I like scouts but I kinda doubt it's better than VoC, plus it has only i think 13 magazine, that's worse than some hand cannons.

For the raid on normal, minus a few chests in the beginning as I joined on the confluxes, got chatterwhite, raid chest piece (my 3rd one now, working toward 30 on all chars), and some shards/energy. So, not horrible anytime you get a raid piece, but not great.

Plus I dont love the stat roll on the Cuirass. It's like 113 strength. I'm having a heck of a time doing a build that isn't all strength and no intellect. Best I can possibly do is like 40% intellect...my 2nd and 3rd chars are like 17% intellect.

Both the Knucklehead radars I got have been all strength, and most chest pieces seem to be at least half if not all strength...anyone (strange, cough) got any insight on this? Are exotics locked to one attribute (all kucklehead radars strength for example?) It seems clear to me at least that chest armor seems predisposed to strength.

hello random, stop giving me ascendant shards all the time. If you does not want to give me any gear, at least give ascendant energy not shards....

You know, this may have been my problem. I thought you had to stay on the plate to keep the white fence up.

for opeing gates, yeah you can left it alone after triggerred. but for plate inside VoG, you need to stand on it.

btw Power/shield bubble can be summonned right in the central pillar of VoG plate to dispell praetorian.

VoC is arguably the best primary in the game. No scout rifle compares. I fortunately have 3 of them now for each character and dismantled all of my other scout rifles (except I kept MIDA Multi-Tool just because it's pretty good and it's an exotic).

I beat the raid on two characters and joined orangpelupa's group at the gatekeepers part on my third character so far this week. Still no armor after beating the raid like 10 times (plus some non-completed runs). Hoping to hit the missing loot points before Tuesday. I want to try to run the raid 3 times a week now.

djskribbles, yell at me when you are doing raids and there is need for more bodies. :)

VoC I love, does it come in different flavours of element damage? I got a solar one, need other elements if possible :)

I will definitely invite any B3Der if people are needed. But I usually join near full groups because I don't have a regular group. Either people on my friends list invite me, or I get random invites at the tower. I have been pretty lucky finding groups the past two weeks.

As for VoC, it only comes with solar damage AFAIK. All 3 of mine are. I'm pretty sure all raid weapons are the same and there are no variations like regular legendaries.

Yes raid weapons have always the same stat. But armors raid can have different stats on strength, discipline, agility, so sometime reloot them is cool.

Man, I stand by nightfall is pretty tough solo this week. I beat it on one of my chars but still having problems.

Everything is pretty easy EXCEPT the adds directly before you release the boss. Those damn melee dregs, one of them keeps getting through to me sooner or later every time, and I have to be scared to death of the shielded yellow Captains. There's no 100% "safe spot" for this part.

It's probably just bad luck.

I found an old arc machine gun randomly in my inventory and actually started using it, it's a blue, 224 attack. Even for a blue it seems poor with very high recoil. Arguable how effective it is even with arc burn.

I decided I definitely need better arc guns by the next time an arc burn comes around, I'm chalking my struggles up to poor equipment. At least a (decent) arc machine gun! That would make it so much easier to take on those dregs and captains without fear. As it is, my only arc is basically patience and time, which means I have nothing arc for when they get in close, and nothing to strike fear in an aggressive captain.

It also sucks that the part I keep dying on is near the end. So I have to fight through the whole level again every time just to get to the problem spot.

I dont think VoC as my main is the best either for this part, as it's not going to be ideal for a group of rushing dregs. Really dont like my options though, Atheons Epilogue is just too crap overall, hand cannons are out, etc. OTOH VoC is great for the fire shield shanks.

I may actually try some bladedancer, I would guess his super is arc damage? As long as they dont melee me if I use it though...the fact is when it runs out I may well be standing in the middle of a bunch of melee enemies. And melees are like double one-shots this week cause they're also arc (from dregs) and lightswitch.

Not sure if I'm using my time wisely spending a lot of it on the nightfall, the rewards I've got from nightfall so far are average at best.

Using the bladedancer super is pretty risky in the nightfall, because enemies are super aggressive and will melee you when you get too close. They will take you down quick if a mob of enemies all melee you. I haven't actually tried it, but personally I wouldn't attempt to use it.

The part before the boss is really the only challenging part. This is the part where a good arc rocket launcher is handy.
But once you take out the hydras and head towards that area, when you drop down, stay around that area. Don't rush in... you'll get destroyed. Stay back and slowly take enemies out with your VoC and P&T. Captains will rush you, but just jump back up top and take them out with your arc weapons. Once you take out the captains and snipers, it's really easy from there.

Hand cannons are great if you can get head shots, but I can't help thinking a good Auto Rifle is what you want for close, rushing asshole mobs. I don't have a good AR yet.

Edit:
@Rangers
I know you don't like shotguns, but if you have it why not try Found Verdict? The one I got from the raid is arc, and it's a freaking beast up close (full auto too for extremely hairy situations). It might pair well with VoC as primary.
