Destiny [PS3,X360,PS4,XO]

After IB this week I think my job is gonna be trying to farm VG and HOJ rep as best I can for those weapons.

I got a LDR drop, at least it's something. Seems better than my 1kys, same impact, more AA and has hidden hand. I can tell a little difference it's better. Oh it has better stability too, better for two pops. It's only deficiency vs 1kys seems to be range which I dont think effects snipers much. Both have shortgaze so the scope feels the same. So increase in two important stats and decrease in one unimportant one (and probably reload speed or something too).

I think with Defiance of Yasmin (and probably some others), you can still pick up 12 rounds with +sniper boots/chest combo. I may try that but TBH I prefer the high impact snipers full stop, as they can get cleanup kills with body shots if the enemy is dinged even a little. I'll never be a crack sniper so I get a lot of my sniper kills that way. Plus, I generally dont snipe enough to realistically need more ammo IMO.

Looking at the stats for Longbow Synth, I'm not sure the big deal. Unless it still holds 5 in the mag maybe? I guess that would be nice, but no big. I heard it was an AA monster but the base AA is similar to LDR.

BTW what is the deal with the spektar armor? I had a guy run up in my face in some PVE thing, he looked SO badass, like a badass wraith commando. I inspected him and he was wearing some kind of spektar armor the full set.

However I get some now and then, if it's not Int/Disc I tend to shard it, what's confusing me is there's so many types, Spektar, Spektar Aspreit, Spektar inifinite, maybe more? It's confusing and trying to figure out which one looks coolest or I'm supposed to want, and am I supposed to mix and match? I'm a long way from a full set of the same type anyway. And then I'll have to level it all to 335 sigh...I think it's a cool idea but all the different types just muddle it too much. Also some had FWC logo on it, I dont care for that, kinda ruins it like a advertisement LOL.

Man, PVP /IB is a slog last few weeks, I think mainly just cus I've been tired (all the good players say rest is key to playing well) but I've had to scratch for every damn inch. Even freelance 6v6 last week was not much easier. Feels to me like maybe only the good players are left.

I was hoping to drop my kill backlog from 800 to 600 over IB cus last time I gained nearly 200. So far I'm about done for the week and it's 750. Brutal.

The additional sanity checks in PvP is getting more ridiculous than months ago.

Now the kill can be delayed for much longer. Now enemy will teleport here and there like a taken instead of running into a wall.

The good thing is, they are now no longer invincible. It's just a pain to shoot at them.

I did the IB grind, much more worth is now that stuff drops at your light. Got my 3335 ghost, ship and a few weapons. I'm still not a fan of the mode, but I can do well enough as a striker titan. I'm hoping the May 10th melee patch helps with some of the inconsistencies of the melee and shoulder charge.

I tried the vendor hawksaw tonight for a few matches...it was pretty effective. Needs more testing but could even be my new main or at least legendary main. A lot of fun.

I still have some great roll PDX 45's from when pulses were king, however I noticed they seem tuned more for stability than range, where now range is big also.

I was having problems with any legendary scout, hate HC's, and had written off pulses early on, so it was great to find a option there.

Also that Tormond's Bellows is nice. My main heavy now.

Killing it in MP lately...I dunno what happened. My daily k/d yesterday was 1.5.

Mida is such a monster. No other primary comes close I dont care what people say. That I can see anyway (since I'm known to change me mind :))

I dont know what to do besides Crucible. Just go for Variks packages to try to get Hand of Judgment, and VG rep to try to get yr2 Badger. Neither are that big a deal, and it's a lot of grind for those packages for very little chance of success.

Decently cool video...so many little graphical details in this gorgeous game

I'm 385 away from 1.0 k/d it's been a months long slog. Not doing much but PVE these days, being comfortably 335 there isn't much reason too.

Just running Blade Dancer/Mida/ATS8 chestpiece/skip grenades. A sniper and on a few close range maps a shotgun, and the vendor IB Tormonds Bellows. That's my best loadout.

They nerfed Arc Blade which is insane, as it was already a lower tier super, but it isn't horrible. I fact I got my first ever "Reaper" and "Slayer" (kill 5 and 6 enemies quickly) medals the other day. I wiped out the whole enemy team with one arc blade when I've never done better than 4 before in massive playtime. Not saying Arc Blade is better now it isn't, but just that in certain circumstances it probably can be IMO. The hardest though would be "7th column", have to wipe the whole enemy team and THEN get one after he respawns. I dont believe any hunter super is physically capable of doing that one (MAYBE golden gun if you got some kind of insane combustion procs as well as ludicrous luck?)

Another IB complete, rank 5 x3. Many drops, two good Cov Duty drops in addition to the vendor one.

I mainly play a Titan, that being said...

I don't know why anyone would PvP as a Warlock, super frustrating movement (blink is OK) and horrible grenades. I love them for PvE though. Only Stormtrance is OP.

Hunters are easy mode PvP. Tons of tools and good supers. After a few games getting used to my hunter who I play the least I got 3.5 k/d and top score for the bounty. I see why so many people play them and why they got nerfed. Their jump alone makes them really nimble death machines.

..

What?

In top tier PVP I dont think hunters even exist. Everybody just runs Sunsingers in trials. In fact sweaties have a rule, 3 different classes, otherwise everybody would just always be Warlocks.

Bungie only posted a chart for 6's. That's half of PVP at best. Trials is 3v3 and it's the most important PVP event. Nobody, nobody, runs hunters in Trials.

Other classes super last 2X as long and get 5-6 automatic kills without even trying. With Arc Blade...sometimes it's not worth using at all. You will probably just die faster.

Grenades...lightning genades are 100X better...all Hunter grenades are complete trash.

No question Hunters are by far the worst PVP class. Warlocks have OP melee, the tank class Titans is FASTER...etc.

I get killed by Stormtrance and Hammer 50 times more than Arc Blade...spotting an arc blade in crucible is like seeing a Unicorn...

The people who say hunters are best ALWAYS dont main hunters. Because if they did, they'd know laughable a statement that is. I think that says it all.

You had a 3.5 one game? Big whoop, k/d varies like crazy from game to game based on competition. You wont stick with Hunter because you dont want to play crucible hard mode. Also, "after a few games getting used to". So you had like 5 bad games and one good one, then conclude hunter is best...OK...

Anyways...I just had a great run, 9 of last 11 games over a 2 k/d. I'm only 217 away from 1.0...

For some reason just tonight my sniper really started clicking. Typically I go long periods without getting a special kill...tonight I counted I had 31 including 6 in one game (which is crazy for me).

My LDR is really such a monster. Hidden Hand, Braced Frame...Shortgaze...it even two taps well with braced frame. It's really really just a beast. I'll take it over Longbow anyday, I think I sharded my longbow...Longbow only picks up 3 unless you run double sniper perks, LDR picks up 4. LDR has 64 base AA vs 68 for Bow...big deal on that front.

I have such a great sniper and shotgun too.

Been running vendor Tormods since it was offered in IB, but realized it's not perfect, blast radius is a little weak. You can switch the perk to heavy payload, but that's annoying, and you cant do it in the heat of battle, and I always forget to change it back. Probably still the best heavy for dependable kills. I might switch to one of my awesome launchers that only picks up 2.

Anyways so was messing around again with MG's, I thought Quillims was the best you can get but realized tonight due to Mercules spreadsheet it's not...THE BEST is Zombie Apolypse, because any +impact barrel mod gets you the fastest MG TTK's in the game. So I've been using that for fun. With my current barrell it does 50/40 (haven't tried others), so it's going to be right on that edge of a super fast TTK depending on armor. It holds 43 rounds too...I had thought Bane of the Taken was fastest (slightly higher impact than any other MG) so I was using that...nope. Zombie is.

I have data from Bungie showing Hunters have the best k/d, is there some other data for Trials? People only run Sunsinger for self res. Trials is nothing but snipers and res sniping. I don't see how class has much to do with that unless you can self res.

Edit: Data is out there, but hard to search for.

  • Hunters are PvP beasts. A strong neutral game, two great "natural agility moves", and topped off with great supers makes it a hard class to beat in the crucible. (blink and shade step are two big reasons there is so much playability of these two classes IMO)

  • Titans (specifically strikers) in the right hands are astoundingly lethal. (I admit I was surprised to see the high number in the top 100)

  • I was surprised by the "lack" of Warlocks. I thought they would have been more prevalent among top players.

From May, so not too old.

Warlocks may have the worst KD, but most of the top sweaty players main a Warlock, and sweaty players are the best Destiny PVPers. Hunters are the second most popular, followed by Titan.

IMO hunters have always been the easiest class to play well on, hence why they're so popular in PVP. They naturally have high agility, they have (or had) good supers and grenades. Quickdraw alone on the bladedance is almost worth using if you don't have it on your sniper. But they've been hit with so many nerfs that they're not in the greatest place right now, but they're still very strong. Smoke, skip/arc bolt/tripmine grenades, blade dance, shadestep and blink have all been nerfed over the years. Nerfing sunsingers was the only other significant nerf to the other classes/subclasses.

For me personally who has been playing PVP almost since the beginning (but not really playing much lately), my favorite class to run PVP has changed. In the beginning it was Warlock>Hunter>Titan, then it was Hunter>Warlock>Titan; and currently it is Titan>Warlock/Hunter (depending if I'm playing 6v6 or 3v3).

Yeah I kinda exaggerated all that pro hunter stuff. Since I've never played with another subclass I dont REALLY know that much about their strengths and weaknesses, except what I see getting killed by them which is a limited window (and reading reddit of course).

But, public 6's is one specific, incredibly broad stat (because it's looking at the most casual play possible basically). I dont think you can automatically say Hunters are best based on that. But, then again you probably cant say Lock's are best based on Trials. More like, maybe they're best FOR TRIALS but not for 6's, or whatever...

Also when I used the whole "top tier players only use locks" thing on reddit I've gotten pushback like "guess that's why Luminosity and Triple Wreck use hunters" or "guess that's why 19 of top 20 PVP ranked are hunters" (not sure where they got this stat or how meaningful it is).

Arc blade is still pretty good, shortly AFTER they nerfed it I got my first ever slayer and reaper medals with it, which is kill 5/6 quickly. I wiped the whole enemy team with it. And in my whole vast time playing before that I'd never gotten more than 4. Coincidence? Maybe...

It sucks you cant air spam towards enemies anymore, but OTOH it lasts longer. 2 seconds may not sound like much but it's like 20% more time. This means it's a lot easier to pop it and then just around around until you find somebody. It also helps to readjust your mentality, I'm more accepting of just using it to get one safe kill now instead of feeling like it's wasted if you dont get 3-4. After all Fist of Havoc guys routinely use their super for one kill. And then they increased the hit detection by .5 meters, and I think that helped it's lethality a good deal, provided you can get in range.

So yeah to me maybe it was more a trade than a nerf. Maybe on the whole somewhat of a nerf. Similarly, skip grenades are still pretty effective, just like 20% less.

And gunslinger super will always be good for casuals.

FINALLY...at 24223 kills and 24222 deaths, I surpassed 1.0 k/d...

1.30 k/d for July, by far my best month ever looking at Destiny Tracker. Not too bad. And that's with honestly playing well below my capabilities, I can tell I've been leaving a lot of kills on the table lately. Had a 19-3 game with an 18 kill streak the other day. At least I finally got my streak up, before that by some quirk my longest streak was stuck on a pathetic 13 I believe for the longest.

Now, I hope to never give a crap about k/d again. Get back to fun in the crucible, playing with different weapons and subclasses, and different modes. And chasing grimoire will be my other major endeavour until Iron Lords ...maybe playing other games like Inside too.

I really wish I had thought about the Titan/Warlock grimoire before. Both require 5k crucible kills (and 20k PVE I believe) to max. Had I from the beginning pursued these, I would have easily had them by now (since I have almost 25k total crucible kills). But as is, they're going to be a pretty damn huge chore that takes weeks upon weeks most likely. If I even bother at this point. None of the other grindy grimoire seems too bad, but those are just going to be a bear. Honestly I'm a bit burned out feeling on the game.

Never been to Destiny tracker, cool info. I'm 1.077 on my Titan with 10k kills, 1.35 in July. I consider myself a bad PvP player, but I think they only thing I'm good at is surviving and pulling out of a fight I can't win. My kills are usually low, but deaths lower. I always tell my buddy who brags he got my kills that he is helping the other team more than helping us. He will be 0.5 k/d and I'm trying to tell him he is just feeding them points and the win.

If you are above a .~95 k/d you are above average...

Yeah it should be 1.0 but on Destiny Tracker I got top 50% somewhere around there. The kills aren't distributed perfectly evenly so the median is more like .95.

1.0 is good for top 46% k/d or something. Edit: Just checked it's top 43%.

I'm top:

8% in kills
4% in assists
6% in deaths
43% in k/d (lols)
41% in win % (despite only winning 45% of my games)

That obviously shows I played a lot so my counting stats to use a baseball stat nerd term are high, but my k/d is relatively low. It shows if you dont play in a fireteam you will win well south of 50% of games even if you are a above average player.

I believe playing in a fireteam is also very helpful to k/d. I haven't done it a ton but some experiences suggest it's a huge help.

Grimoire I'm top 19% but thats nowhere close to the real picture. I haven't gotten about 40/50 calcified fragments, which is some huge low hanging fruit. I imagine in true time played I'm top 10% or maybe top 5%. Now that I've played a lot of PVP, I'm diversified too.

But yeah I'm still torn whether to care about grimoire, or just play the game for fun.

K/D is not the tell all stat. If you strictly play 6v6 pubs then your K/D is more likely to be higher. But, for example, if you play mostly classic 3v3 or classic rumble or even Trials, the competition is generally tougher. Anbu, one of the top Destiny PVP players, only has a ~1.5x K/D but that's because he mostly plays classic rumble or sweats. Plus I dunno what the latest is on matchmaking but I think skill is factored into it.

Anyway, even though I've hardly played much crucible in year 2 and my skill has dropped off considerably, I still managed to keep my overall K/D at 1.36 across my 3 characters (which I play fairly evenly). I think I was ~1.4 before. I need to be active to be somewhat good at PVP. If I go a week without playing crucible my aim just feels way off, especially sniping which is what I mostly do.

I mostly play Trials or 3v3 modes. The only time I play 6v6 is when I play Iron Banner.

I tried shotgunning the other day in rumble after strictly sniping for several months and it feels just as good as it did in year one. If you learn the play-style of a shotgunner, it's not that hard to be good at it. Sniping on the other hand, requires a lot more skill, especially against other skilled snipers.

Guys, not been upto the news these days ...bust times. What is news on Rise of iron? I heard the ps360 won't get this DLC. anything specific we are gaining from dropping the old consoles? has anytihng been revealed at all? Any new PvE mode?

anything specific we are gaining from dropping the old consoles?

I believe Bungie said somewhere vault space will "no longer be an issue", though they didn't give a number. That'd be one obvious answer. Since it was supposedly the limited memory on past gen holding them back.

It's hard to believe this game shipped with, was it 24 gun slots or something? And Bungie didn't realize it'd be an issue. Just goes to show they didn't understand how people would play their game. Even 108 armor/weapon slots I'm still finding somewhat limiting, though way better. It doesn't help that you need to save some armor/guns solely as infusion fuel on the new upgrade system.

Then I think I read somewhere something like graphical touches of persistent footprints in the snow of ROI...another memory issue not possible on old gen.

I'd expect it to be somewhat minor since they cant rebuild the game, but should be nice. The game was already an underrated looker, some of the stuff in that first mission of Taken King was pretty impressive by any standard, but especially for an MMO nature game on cross gen.

Bummer about ROI: Only one new strike. Positive: Snowy/outdoor/cosmodrome environments! Dreadnaught was so drab...
