Just jump to the platform high up on the left and cheese him to death.Solo-ed the nightfall for the first time since they buffed it.
This is kind of an "easy" one of course, with solar burn. I have 300 VoC, 300 The Swarm, 300 Ice Breaker, 291 Gjallahorn, etc.
Nothing too difficult before the boss just remember what deals solar damage, so Captains and vex. The vex snipers just come within about a percent of one hitting my level 30 guy, so I'm sure they'd one shot a 29.
The boss is kind of tough, I "discovered" a strategy. You stay in the back until the boss stops aggroing/blasting the cave entrance nonstop, sprint forward when the salvos stop, shoot the boss with IB once, maybe twice (a lot of times he will be turned around, all you can do is shoot him in the back for maybe 1k damage unless you want the Minotaur to spawn), and sprint to the back of the cave, a lot of times you can stop the minotaur from spawning because he wont spawn if you're near the back. Just keep repeating this. run, get your shot/s in fast, run back. He still spawns at times if your timing is off and I almost died a couple times by him. I took him out with Swarm when he did spawn. Gjallahorn may have been very effective at this part, especially if it one shots the Minotaur, then you could go shoot the boss a few times, pop the Minotaur, repeat, synth some, etc, but I played it safe only with Ice Breaker. It takes a long time as you'd expect. Also, you dont have to kill all the adds to get the boss to spawn like I thought, I just killed a couple and after a while he spawns on his own.
Or, you can do the nightfall with a buddy in two minutes, one can camp the Minotaur while the other smashes the boss. Your call [emoji14]
Oh and I got 12 ascendant energy Are those even valuable anymore next week? Never mind that I always have around 80-100.
This is the typical MMO model. They'll lose a few people but will keep those they otherwise would have lost because they've conquered everything and for which there is No challenge left. WoW started out with a level cap of 50, it's now 100. If there's nothing to keep people playing, they'll go play something else.
User retention is tricky.
I just wanted to note that this isn't the typical MMO model. Typical MMO model is planned obsolescence. In other words, the items you have become obsolete as new items become available. The successful ones like WoW balance planned obsolescence with time. For instance, in World of Warcraft you get generally about 1 year before the best items become obsolete. Personally, I think 3 months is a bit too fast for this model.
Also, skills and level are not tied to gear in other MMOs - that is fairly unique to Destiny (exotic armor will need to be reset too - not just weapons). This means that resetting a weapon or armor is actually taking a huge step backwards. In WoW while your items do become obsolete, you never feel like you are taking a step backwards. Actually, I think FFXIV ARR has the perfect model for keeping special weapons special without making players take a step backwards. Their class specific quest items are really great - they always remain relevant with new content but you always feel like you are moving forward.
I think the thing that annoys people the most isn't the notion of re-grinding though. It is the notion that someone who did absolutely nothing to level a weapon is on par with someone who actually leveled one. Actually, if Xur is selling the weapon the person who did nothing will be ahead (it will only cost them 13 coins to get a fully upgraded weapon if they break down their un-leveled version while it will cost someone who upgrades 14). Basically, if you spend time leveling a weapon you aren't actively using, you are wasting your time. Because this same model will probably hold true for the next DLC as well I won't be leveling a lot of exotics this time around. One or two max. It will actually drastically reduce my play time - which I guess could be considered a good thing.
Just jump to the platform high up on the left and cheese him to death.
As for the expansion. Sounds like they are doing everything the right way, lvl 30 gear and exotic stuff should be replaced by better gear. Why else try to get new stuff?
Yeah, overall I'm pretty disappointed with loot system. All I want are cool weapons (it's a shooter for Christ's sake), but I haven't got any. I haven't even been able to buy any.
I will try to explain, when you enter the room you are looking down from the entrance. On your far left there is a platform above the floor. That is your first jump. And the easy one. Once you are there you have another platform way up below the ceiling of the cave. Jump there and you have an excellent spot. What do you mean? I vaguely remember some platform cheese spots in this section and trying to jump to them. I was thinking they were impossible to get to with the Hunter but I dont recall. The other problem with such tricky jumps is if you miss a tricky jump even once it's game over (the adds will be all over you) and that's complete death on a nightfall. Also from what I remember from trying a few, all the platform cheese spots were not invulnerable and actually not very effective. Did you solo the nightfall this week with that spot?
Usually the best cheese spots are known by absolutely everybody, and everybody I've grouped with is staying up top, and I havent seen videos about a left platform cheese spot either.
