Destiny [PS3,X360,PS4,XO]

Yeah, overall I'm pretty disappointed with loot system. All I want are cool weapons (it's a shooter for Christ's sake), but I haven't got any. I haven't even been able to buy any.

the random loot is a new thing in destiny. it was bolted-on pretty late. on vidoc or e3 video... i forgot. The boss is shown as dropping loot. the same behavior as minions.

Solo-ed the nightfall for the first time since they buffed it.

This is kind of an "easy" one of course, with solar burn. I have 300 VoC, 300 The Swarm, 300 Ice Breaker, 291 Gjallahorn, etc.

Nothing too difficult before the boss just remember what deals solar damage, so Captains and vex. The vex snipers just come within about a percent of one hitting my level 30 guy, so I'm sure they'd one shot a 29.

The boss is kind of tough, I "discovered" a strategy. You stay in the back until the boss stops aggroing/blasting the cave entrance nonstop, sprint forward when the salvos stop, shoot the boss with IB once, maybe twice (a lot of times he will be turned around, all you can do is shoot him in the back for maybe 1k damage unless you want the Minotaur to spawn), and sprint to the back of the cave, a lot of times you can stop the minotaur from spawning because he wont spawn if you're near the back. Just keep repeating this. run, get your shot/s in fast, run back. He still spawns at times if your timing is off and I almost died a couple times by him. I took him out with Swarm when he did spawn. Gjallahorn may have been very effective at this part, especially if it one shots the Minotaur, then you could go shoot the boss a few times, pop the Minotaur, repeat, synth some, etc, but I played it safe only with Ice Breaker. It takes a long time as you'd expect. Also, you dont have to kill all the adds to get the boss to spawn like I thought, I just killed a couple and after a while he spawns on his own.

Or, you can do the nightfall with a buddy in two minutes, one can camp the Minotaur while the other smashes the boss. Your call [emoji14]

Oh and I got 12 ascendant energy  Are those even valuable anymore next week? Never mind that I always have around 80-100.
Just jump to the platform high up on the left and cheese him to death.

As for the expansion. Sounds like they are doing everything the right way, lvl 30 gear and exotic stuff should be replaced by better gear. Why else try to get new stuff?

So I guess we dump our current legendary weapons and armor?

Not too happy about having to re-upgrade my Armamentarium chest armor and Apotheosis Veil helmet though. I really don't have any worthwhile exotic weapons, so that part isn't too big of a concern for me. Only my Pocket Infinity will be affected. The Super Good Advice MG is still garbage even after the stability buff, so I don't really care about it.

This is the typical MMO model. They'll lose a few people but will keep those they otherwise would have lost because they've conquered everything and for which there is No challenge left. WoW started out with a level cap of 50, it's now 100. If there's nothing to keep people playing, they'll go play something else.

User retention is tricky.

I just wanted to note that this isn't the typical MMO model. Typical MMO model is planned obsolescence. In other words, the items you have become obsolete as new items become available. The successful ones like WoW balance planned obsolescence with time. For instance, in World of Warcraft you get generally about 1 year before the best items become obsolete. Personally, I think 3 months is a bit too fast for this model.

Also, skills and level are not tied to gear in other MMOs - that is fairly unique to Destiny (exotic armor will need to be reset too - not just weapons). This means that resetting a weapon or armor is actually taking a huge step backwards. In WoW while your items do become obsolete, you never feel like you are taking a step backwards. Actually, I think FFXIV ARR has the perfect model for keeping special weapons special without making players take a step backwards. Their class specific quest items are really great - they always remain relevant with new content but you always feel like you are moving forward.

I think the thing that annoys people the most isn't the notion of re-grinding though. It is the notion that someone who did absolutely nothing to level a weapon is on par with someone who actually leveled one. Actually, if Xur is selling the weapon the person who did nothing will be ahead (it will only cost them 13 coins to get a fully upgraded weapon if they break down their un-leveled version while it will cost someone who upgrades 14). Basically, if you spend time leveling a weapon you aren't actively using, you are wasting your time. Because this same model will probably hold true for the next DLC as well I won't be leveling a lot of exotics this time around. One or two max. It will actually drastically reduce my play time - which I guess could be considered a good thing.

Destiny is like a MMO on speed, you can get raid ready a lot faster, and you can apparently beat the raid a lot easier. With a lvl cap of 32 it´s obvious that whatever gear that made you lvl 30 has to be obsolete, someone like me that hit the wall at lvl 29 is most likely going to get to lvl 31 and will need the raid to get the last lvl, just like the vanilla content. As for the exotics, yeah they will reset, but at least i will be able to keep them.

I downloaded the trial of Destiny last night for the X1. It isn't really like I imagined.
I am really enjoying myself so far. The gameplay in my opinion is not as close to Halo as a lot of people said it was. Looks like I am going to have to make a purchase.

What do you mean? I vaguely remember some platform cheese spots in this section and trying to jump to them. I was thinking they were impossible to get to with the Hunter but I dont recall. The other problem with such tricky jumps is if you miss a tricky jump even once it's game over (the adds will be all over you) and that's complete death on a nightfall. Also from what I remember from trying a few, all the platform cheese spots were not invulnerable and actually not very effective. Did you solo the nightfall this week with that spot?

Usually the best cheese spots are known by absolutely everybody, and everybody I've grouped with is staying up top, and I havent seen videos about a left platform cheese spot either.

About all the gear leveling, I read a very comforting post/idea. It's to just keep in mind that everything except hard raid in the new DLC will be level 30 and below. What does this mean? Well, we already take on 30 content just fine with our current weapons. What does this mean? Everything in the expansion except the new hard mode raid (which isn't even releasing until January) should be fine to take on with our current weaponry, both exotics and legendaries. Of course there will be better weapons available and we'll want them, but it isn't "necessary".

This made me feel better. I'm actually more worried about legendaries than exotics, since exotics are so loadout limited, I feel like most of my weapon mainstays are legendaries. The exotics that are really worth it imo are just Gallahorn and Ice Breaker.

Also, I remember Bungie saying weeks ago the goal for Vex Mythoclast was to be something you can take into the next raid comfortably. Perhaps why that's the only exotic they just gave an attack level buff, though (but I dont really think so, I think the idea is todays best weapons will all work in the DB raid).

One interesting thing we haven't discussed is the "commendations" system. This will effectively limit you to buying one legendary per faction level. It's kinda weird to me Bungie must have thought people were buying too many legendaries, but that doesn't seem to be a problem to me.

JPT showed me a spot that I think tkf is explaining. I've only used it twice, but it was completely safe from what I remember. Only the Nexus can hit you, and you can duck for cover.

I'm drowning in weapons, so I have to shard legendaries and probably soon enough, exotics too. So I dont see how you're not getting "cool" weapons. Do you just mean you dont approve of the ones you're getting, or you're actually not getting any legendary and above weapons? The latter I cant believe.

One thing I worry about is them just running out of ideas, how many different interesting ways can you make a gun? This has been a longtime problem, lets take even say Gears of War series, it starts to get kind of comical them stretching for idea for new guns every iteration, like that ground digger gun. The same can go for Call of Duty or any franchise. Gears 1 had some nice basic guns. Gears 2 and 3 come with 50 gimmicky kitchen sink guns, most of which I basically hate and avoid at all costs. But I understand, it's again same as COD franchise, they're under pressure to come up with something new every time, and there's only so many ways to run around and shoot people.

Bungie already exhausted their ideas for guns. See the new guns item description. It's getting worse.

Btw why they release the dlc as single on US but only as expansion pass in Asia...

I don't want to buy both dlc... I just want one

@Rangers
I mean I never get any exotic weapons, never get good raid weapons (only Found Verdict and AE, neither if which are noteworthy), and most of my legendary drops are random lame faction-specific pulse rifles that just suck. Hell, even the Vanguard weapons aren't really that good.

Meanwhile, everyone else is running around with an IB, Gjallarhorn, or other cool weapon while I'm shooting low impact spitwads at enemies. Every raid I've been on so far, someone has gotten a rad weapon like IB, Gjallarhorn, VoC, Thunderlord, CM, etc., while all I get is Chatterwhite. I'm so underarmed that I don't even want to try a hard raid because even at lvl 30 I can't pack enough ammo synth to make a dent in enemies with my sorry ass loadout. And to top.it off, Xur has only been selling ass weapons for a while now. I am seriously disillusioned at this point.

I will try to explain, when you enter the room you are looking down from the entrance. On your far left there is a platform above the floor. That is your first jump. And the easy one. Once you are there you have another platform way up below the ceiling of the cave. Jump there and you have an excellent spot.
You have to select the 3rd jump upgrade, I think the 4th upgrade doesn't let you jump so far.

Maybe I have a video, if not I will make one.

Something I did not know but is official from Bungie...you can go right to the raid. You do not have to do any quests or anything at all first.

It's gonna be weird for me to be able to try from the start. With Vault of Glass it took me weeks, or also i was very patient. It was like some legend to me. This time I will be ready right away, level 30 etc. I guess people will just be losing a crapton that first week?

@Rangers
same with me on PS4.
its available as single DLC on US PSN but... only as Expansion Pass on Asia PSN.

publishers already give up region locking physical disc but they still adamant to enforce region lock and different decission, schedules, etc, for every little bit of stuff.

Yeah, I looked it up on PSN it seemed to be available for pre-order. But not on Xbox.

As I've explained before I prefer to order the expansions one at a time, it's only $5 more, and if I stop playing Destiny before the 2nd expansion I'll save 15. I am not sure if they are just waiting til the 9th or what. I dont want to have to DL GB's of data on launch day...

Anyways Xur is up, nothing good for me. Plan C again but I have that. I stocked up on heavy synth since he hasn't sold that in a while. I now have 66 heavy synth LOL. I would have bought a lot more except of course it would squeeze my consumables space. Bought the exotic shard and finally 300'd my Gjallahorn.

I've been running with a alternate lineup of Fatebringer, Corrective Measure, and Preadyth's Revenge today. I am trying to upgrade all those. It's been fun. PR has triple stacked fast reloads (chain of woe, the perk on the weapon itself, and my gloves). It reloads so fast it's basically no reload at all. It shoots incredibly smoothly. I have the light agile shortest range scope on it, combine all those attributes it's just super smooth and snappy, it's pretty fun. Fatebringer seems to me definitely the best HC short of hawkmoon, at least clearly the best legendary. It's basically equal to the other top legendary HC's in impact, it has a 13 mag with field scout, but the bonuses are some kind of arc damage AOE, and the perk that does 15% more damage within 3 seconds of a kill, plus it being arc damage. Those definitely push it over the top vs Devil You Know. Corrective Measure is a bit of a light hitter versus other MG's, I need to up it to 300 for sure. But it's still pretty awesome with the 100 mag. It sucks I got it after I'm (evidently) basically through with VoG. Hell i may run another VoG just to try it against Prat's even though I cant get loot.

That said, I was running the daily 28 and I wanted to finish before my MG telemetry ran out that just had a couple minutes left when I got to the boss and stupidly died a couple times. I whipped out Gjallahorn (291 then) and just destroyed him. So yeah, those other weapons may be nice, but they're not Gjallahorn and Ice Breaker.
