Death sentence vs Very long jail time with cell mate Bubba

I read the Saddam thread and a lot of you seem to want to hang him. I will not turn this thread into Saddam thread, but rather a thread about capital punishment vs jail time with a husband.

I would first like to say that if I committed a serious crime (not that I would) and I was allowed to choose 30 years imprisonment or (instant) death, I would pick death.

Reason for that is, I don't know what death is nor do I fear something I know nothing about and it may(I would take a chance) be less painful than spending time in a cell with a husband for 30 years getting sexually abused by the second.

Wouldn't long periods in jail be much worse than a death sentence?
Wouldn't many people rather die than spend a long time in jail?

I know that Religious zealots would rather die, but how about everyone else?

I would study for a year trying to find the most inhuman way of killing him. Then I'd do that.

Then you'd be not better than Saddam himself or his son Kurai.

Perhaps. But, aslong as he's alive - regardless of where he is - the possibility exists that he can return. I'd hate to see some 1970's-esque terrorist hijacking/killings with the intent to barter Saddam's release. He should die, sad to say, but ultimatly the best strategy.

Saddam over time may become a huge source of info. I dont think killing him will do anything to the batthists and sunnis who wish to regain power in Iraq. If hes gone they'll merely look for another strongman to rally behind.

We already gleaned info from saddams capture... I say leave him in prison and interrogate him the rest his life.

I think the Iranians should also get the chance to state a case against him. He killed more of them than Iraqis even. But Id let them do that at the WC.

I agree but justice must be done. He ought to be tried in a court of his peers and allow then to decide his fate.

On the matter, does anyone know in hwat kind of conditions is Milosevic kept? Because somehow i think he's having it real easy... Is he kept in one of those "high security" prisons where they get everything taken care of, and TV? Just curious...

I'm not talking about Saddam. I'm asking about yourselves. :?
Sorry I ever mentioned Saddam.

Khatami just spoke out against the death penalty, even for Saddam.

I sure didn't expect to see that coming, given the fact that they executed 113 people last year, making Texas look pretty tame, (although granted there are many more people in Iran than Texas).

no, seriously,

Does anyone know whether long sentences (30+ years) are served in shared cells? Cause i've always wondered about it... The 2 cellmates would be together for like 30 years, and i guess this would create some variables one wouldn't usually think about...

Anyway, I don't think you can ask someone "30 years or death"... i mean, i wouldn't know what to say, i would never think about it since i know i will never put myself into a situation to face such choice...

Neither will I but this is a hypothetical situation. :)

Bubba = Think of Mike Tyson or someone like him.

The fact is, though, that most "celebrity" felons don't spend time in "federal poundmeintheass prisons", (gotta love office space). So spending 30 years with Bubba isn't really an option when talking about celebrity cases. Regardless, I still think the death penalty serves no practical purpose. It doesn't deter anyone versus life in prison without parole, and there's always the possibility for error.

And also we should get into the whole "imprisonment is not a punishment, rather a way to educate the perpetrator" discussion, which is LONG...

Khatami against executing Saddam??? Holy shit.. thats right out of left field... Seriously I dont think Iranians would be kind to Saddam if they ever got their hands on him no matter what Khatami thinks... Which is also contradictory to what Iranians do in the penal system as you say executions arent exactly banned there.
