Dark Souls

For some reason I'd assumed this was a PS3 exclusive. I didn't realise it was an Xbox release as well. Sounds right up my street I think.

 You guys are going to leave me hanging high and dry again ?

Think of it as a valuable experience that'll only make you stronger for it. ;)

I haz the game now. A handsome looking package. The booklet in my pre-order bundle contains only concept art. I don't want to buy a strategy guide. Looks like I'll need to scout the net for tips first.

I'm thinking of buying a guide. The little mini guide that came with Demon's Souls was awesome. It was nice having an overview handy of all the weapons, their upgrade paths, the armours, ect. It beats going through Demon's Souls obscure menu's to compare things.

When I saw people on my friends list playing Demon's Souls for the first time, I used to send them a message:

Subject: A friendly msg from Verizon

Body: Can I invade you now ?

It usually sent them scrambling. I guess it's my turn to receive the message now. :)

Yeah... I'll check out the community contribution first before buying the guide.

My co-worker just went out to buy another copy because Amazon shipped his pre-order late. He also wants to invade me. *scratch head* How come everyone wants me alone and dead in this game ? :devilish:

Last time it went like this...

[Enter chatroom after reading my message]

Cornbread78: Hey patsu, I saw a little white man running around in the level. Is that you ?

patsu: Dear Cornbread78, because of how DS invasion work, I'm entering and exiting people's world to track you down now. It should not take too long to find you tonight.

Cornbread78: ...

The rest in the chatroom:  shit just got real ! etc. etc.

BTW, all of you who already own the game or get it on Friday, enjoy and have fun! I have ordered mine from blahdvd and will wait for the shipment, even I am crazy enough to contemplate a buy from a local store to get it even earlier :D .

Of course, I am looking forward to a thread full with
spoiler tags
. :)

Sparkly, Twinkly!

Edit: Can someone with a PSN+ account please test if you can upload the savegames. It still hurts me that I lost my Demon's Souls savegame when my old PS3 died.

Yes, you can upload Dark Souls game save to the online storage.

Btw, if you have the CE edition, you can go to preparetodie.com/ce to download the mini-guide. But it's very unreliable because of excessive load. My download died half way and the system refuses to let me download a second time. 8^(

And oh boy, did I get my *ss handed to me by the first boss. >_<

EDIT: Saw your PM. I am not sure if the servers are region-based. Have to read up myself. I am rather tempted to buy the goddamn guide at this point.

I rolled Wanderer just to try out this week. May switch to different classes to test water.

You guys are making me go weak in the knees  ! I don't want to buy it cos I know I will never have the time and the diligence to play it through, but oh I really want a game that makes me forget every other game out there for 6 months or so. I am sick of running after games, I want my PS2 era back when I used to play just one game at a time and be totally into it from head to toe. The lovely time of STOC, MGS3, MGS2, Killzone, GOW1, GOW2,etc, etc....... sniff... I think I'll just concentrate on R3 right now !

I feel just the same.
It's got to the point that I have difficulties deciding what to play, so I end up not playing anything and watch some movie or TV series instead.

I agree ! They release too many good games together. I usually survey a few first, and then settle on one.

Gave Dark Souls a quick run last night just to stop the anxiety. I think I will go back to Ico tonight (In West Arena now). Then move on to Dark Souls.

Good sense prevailing over gamers. I think this has to do with average age of gamers on the PS3 being on the higher side, they want something more cerebral to munch on than just another adrenalin rush shooter.

Or alternatively and far more likely (and less inflammatory) it may be because this is the sequel to a PS3 exclusive. Xbox gamers probably haven't even heard of the IP.

Yes, I agree, that's generally how it works. Almost every game that was exclusive during the PS2 years that made it to the 360 had relatively disappointing sales, and that is probably a big part of it: brand recognition.

It must suck playing Dark Souls for the first time, and never having played Demon's Souls. The tutorial in this is even more useless. I'm still wondering how to do a few basic things.

I killed Something Ugly.

I think the camera is closer in Dark Souls. And yes, the zoomed in enemies do look uglier because of that.

So far, I prefer Demon's Souls startup experience and simplicity too. But I'm willing to give Dark Souls more time to sink in. :)

RPG-fans bought PS3 for proper RPG's like Demon's Souls, FF13 and Valkyria Chronicles, while Shooter-fans bought 360 for shooters like Mass Effect and Halo.

Both group of gamers will probably try out both games, but PS3 gamers are more hyped for DS, while 360 gamers are hyped for Rage - And thus early sales distribute differently.
Don't think it has anything to do with age.

Ok, time for a stupid question. How do you repair weapons? I thought you were able to do this a bonfire.

Edit: I found the answer.
You buy a repair box at the vendor.

I think I just an equivalent of the Red Eye Knight in 1-1 of Demon's Souls. I'm going try and kill him tomorrow.
