I'm rather proud of myself. Apart from one or two early screen shots I managed to avoid just about any and all types of media regarding Dark Souls.
Dark Souls went on sale in Japan a few hours ago and as users logged online they noticed a number of bugs. From Software’s game shipped with freezing phantoms.
In an effort to fix the problems, From Software suspended online play and asked users to please play offline while they address the issues.
From Software has issued an update regarding the issues the Japanese PlayStation 3 version of Dark Souls has been having since its release yesterday.

Via its official Twitter today, From said that it has found the source of the bugs and is planning on releasing a patch to fix the problem. The patch will be released some time next week.
The real Dark Souls begins tomorrow when From Software restores online play. Dark Souls launched in Japan as a PlayStation 3 exclusive last Thursday, but the game shipped with bugs that froze the game under certain situations.
From Software quickly shut down the servers and asked users to play offline. Fortunately, the issue has been resolved. Dark Souls version 1.02 is scheduled to come out tomorrow, September 27, in the afternoon.

"Dark Souls sells over 200,000 during first week in Japan".
Impressive indeed given the amount DS sold! 37k i believe?

players found new bugs on Wednesday. The game would hang during trophy installation and some NPCs would mysteriously vanish.
While neither issue sounds as pressing as the freezing issues, From Software has a fix and it’s coming on Friday. Dark Souls version 1.03 will take care of those problems and the patch is coming noon (Japan time) on September 30.
A Journey Into The Dark
By Christian Nutt [In this interview with Dark Souls producer Kei Hirono, he reflects on the development of the game and what director Hidetaka Miyazaki and his team at developer From Software have achieved with the eagerly anticipated, famously challenging, and innovative title.]
With all of the commentary about how the Japanese market is failing to create games that appeal globally, especially for hardcore audiences, you need only to point to Dark Souls as an example of a game that bucks the trend. Not only is it wildly successful in its home market -- as its debut on this week's Media Create charts at number one shows -- it is also one of the most eagerly anticipated games of 2011 in the West.
One reason it is anticipated so highly is simply because it's the direct successor to a well-respected and successful title: Demon's Souls, which debuted on the PlayStation 3 in 2009. It's a much more polished, thoroughly bigger and better-made version of that game, essentially, as many sequels and follow-ups are.
But it's also because it's a game that bucks trends: it's not simply a well-designed RPG, but it's one of the most challenging games yet released this generation. And as veteran developer Mark Cerny has often pointed out -- a point recently echoed by Gears of War's Cliff Bleszinski -- it's got innovative online play that may set the tone for how single player-focused developers will handle those modes in the future.
How did this game come together? To find out more, Gamasutra spoke to the game's producer at Namco Bandai, Kei Hirono. Gamasutra last spoke to Hirono at E3, where he told us that the secret to the game's success was getting out of the way of director Hidetaka Miyazaki and his team at developer From Software. In this new interview, he reflects on the development of the game and what the team has achieved with the title.

It's been awhile since I've been this hyped for a game.
I've already made my choice for the starting class by looking at their stats and starting equipment here. http://darksouls.wikidot.com/classes
I'm going for the Warrior, which is the closest thing to the Knight in Demon's Souls. And try the same mostly melee approach like I did in Demon's Soul. I can't wait until I get my hands on a Katana again.
Post your covenant in this thread when you get the game. I don't want to end up like MAG where I'm in Raven, the weakest faction, while everyone else moved on to Valor or SVER.
Since you're getting the game first, just let me know which covenant you've picked. I'll be in the opposing one.
