Crytek Presents: CRYSIS 3 [PS3, 360]

Well I just cant see how anybody would feel that way, since at times Crysis 2 throws you into a big area full of enemies and says "have at it", where those other games, dont.

I'm playing Crysis 1 XBLA right now, it does have bigger expanses I suppose.

It seems like you want an open world game.

And when did I say Crysis 2 wasn't more linear than C1? Just wow. Talk about reading comprehension...I always admit C2 is more linear than C1...it's just LESS linear than most FPS.

And it's funny you talk about me "insulting" you when your original reply (before I had spoken to you) basically started it all by calling me a liar by your definition, twice.

Crysis 2 does provide a lot of opportunity for freedom than other shooters out there, no doubt. ALmost always, there are multiple routes, and alternate passages if you prefer to just stealth through the situations.
Crysis 1 was more open , but yes, Crysis 2 does let you have multiple options in most situations.

Exactly this, the game was more linear than the first game but still gave the player more options than the majority of FPS game out there - I honestly can't see how anyone would consider Killzone 2 a less linear game than Crysis 2...

Back on topic Crysis 3 looks cool from what we've seen but I'm more worried about the frame-rate than everything, especially now that Crytek said that they're pushing the console versions even more visual wise...I'm not expecting much on this aspect but it will be interesting to see how the console versions will run when compared to Crysis 2.

Also I don't know if I'm saying BS but from my two playthroughs on the 360 I remember wondering if maybe the enemy AI was the reason for some major frame-drops...in some areas the frame-rate was crawling when the enemies were alarmed (even when you didn't "look" at the action which was weird) and when you got rid of the enemies the frame-rate in the area turned back to normal.

Anyone else noticed this?

More interested to technical aspects of the game over the gameplay, (well, honestly I found crysis 2 gameplay/level design terrible from my point of view) especially on the ps3 front because (I know, I'm repetitive, sorry) my mind can't accept yet the idea that engine isn't coding to use the whole ram of the ps3 hardware in the graphic department, I mean it's a lot of waste resources for a console with so low ram... well, we are at the end of the generation but I'm a romantic dreamer...

i agree with renegade about the art in crysis that is the bottleneck, despite technically/technologically it is great.

people looking at crysis 2 running on my pc and cant tell that its look better than the console version. But the same people easily say "wow the graphic in FF XIII is awesome" despite in the techincal side it is not awesome (fake skybox, fake distant picture, hard shadow, ugly texture filtering, etc)

AIs are expensive in CryEngine 3, yes.

I liked Crysis 2 specifically because it wasn't as constrained as COD and Killzone. The stealth mechanic and the fact that you could jump on top of things and run around large areas made it quite a bit more open. No, the arenas weren't quite as open as the best of the Halo games, but it was for the most part a succession of arenas rather than a continuous shooting gallery.

Halo games do, probably a little more so than Crysis 2. Agreed KZ2 didn't (never said it did) since I never went into that game with an expectation of such, I never felt restricted by that game or that the game was "too linear", whereas Crysis 2 coming off the back of Crysis 1 made it's own more restrictive areas (than its predecessor) stand out more.

Well of course it does ;-)

Nope... Just for Crysis 2 to have at least been more open than Crysis 1. Although a little more open ended mission structure could have helped too.

You didn't, but you were clearly trying to downplay its linearity by playing it up next to other games on the market. My point is that the linearity of other games is irrelevant where Crysis 2's own predecessor was far less linear (and thus infinitely more enjoyable to me) than Crysis 2. People liek me who played C2 and disliked its linearity, only did so because they went in with an expectation of a sequal that would surpass its previous game. Had Crysis 2 been the first game in the series, with no prior expectations going in, then I fully agree that there would be nothing to complain about because a comparison against other games on the market would present the game in a very positive ligt in terms of linearity or lack thereof.

And it's funny you talk about me "insulting" you when your original reply (before I had spoken to you) basically started it all by calling me a liar by your definition, twice.

Then I don't think you really understood or read my first reply properly ;-)

So I wasn't imagining things I guess. :p

In the 7th mission where you start at a tall building and fight in the rooftops the combination of AI routines, destructible environments and particles made the frame-rate crawl in some spots.

Also wondering if Crysis 3 will be less linear than Crysis 2, I wish Crytek would go the ODST route with a centric hub connecting the various levels...this will be really cool IMO.

You've moved the goalposts. First you said, "Crysis 2 is just a linear as the majority of console and PC shooters," now you're saying that it was merely more linear relative to the expectations you had coming of Crysis 1, when indeed it is not nearly as constricted as KZ2, COD, BF3, or the typical FPS.

BF3 is very linear, even BFBC2 and BFBC1 is much more not linear.

Crysis 2 still linear but the verticality and suit skills allow some additional freedom that unfortunately, sometime overlooked by the game design.

i encountered a few cases where i slip cloaked to the objective but nothing happend, the scene only progress after i unlokloak or kill all the enemy near objective (despite the objective is only standard go there go here) or move back and forth using the "real road".

Rigs of Rods for CryEngine 3 ... kind of related, but at nearly 2M hits worth a link.

Wow! Looks great! The Bow seems to be a great tool-great addition. The first minutes in this jungle type setting look breath taking, I like especially the effects such as explosion, smoke and all the particles...but the effect of this blue plasma thing weapon is just wow...me want, bring it on!!

I really did not want to upgrade my PC before the end of 2013, but I'm enormous fan of Crysis franchise. Nothing is set in stone. :D
