Could we see less gore in Next Gen games??

While having a quick blast on RE4 and getting head shots every-were it hit me. With the power of the next generation and the extra oomph they have to create more relaistic looking graphics could we see more games have there gore removed due to the fact that it looks " to real "

The media would have a field day if say Resi 5 had full body dismemberment ( spelling?? ) that looked real.

What are your opinions???

RE4 decapitations already look real convincing enough, if they wanted to bring it up they would have done so already.

i think it comes with the package with better graphics so yeah. you cant just have awesome realistic graphics but have animations from the ps1, it has to go hand in hand when everything improves. (i just wish AI would improved just as fast as graphics did)

but i wouldnt be surprised if we see a few games with old unreal/quake type gibbs lol. and there will be the few games that barely have no gore at all when you unload a full clip into a guy. but im sure there will be the titles which have the realistic gore.

so basically it will vary like in the current gen.

I think the only way there will be less gore is if there is a huge public outcry for it to be removed, but as long as gory games sell well, you'll probably see an increase of gore, instead of a decrease.

The thing to remember about gore is it's typically only included in games like RE or FPS's, where it either fits into a horror story plot line, or is done to add a level of added realism to the violence. Game types that aren't gory now wont be gory next-gen either.

I dunno, all those LotR games should have been excellent fodder for gratuitous blood spray, but I'm guessing the franchise was to be cut back on the depiction of anything like that from the very beginning (in order to keep that PG rating). So maybe the "powers that be" are already exacting that sort of pressure for things that will reach proximity to "mainstream audiences".

Playing LotR games w/o graphic bloodspray just seems like it's missing "something" (all while everything else is just splendid)...in the same vein as a movie with "Aliens" but you're not allowed to have high-powered weaponary.

LOTR doesn't have gore. Not in the books and not in the movies. It wouldn't fit the series to have the games be filled with gore if nothing else from the LOTR franchise is.

The most gory scene in the LOTR movies was when Frodo had his finger bitten off by Gollum. Aside from that, there were only about 3 scenes that even showed red blood.

The books have even less gore. For example, this is the description of the battle in Balin's tomb inside the mines of Moria:

Legolas shot two through the throat. Gimli hewn the legs from under another that jumped on Balin's tomb. Boromir and Aragorn slew many. When thirteen had fallen the rest fled shreiking, leaving the defenders unharmed, except for Sam who had a scratch along the scalp. A quick duck had saved him; and he had dispatched his orc with a thrust of his Barrow-blade.

That was about the extent of the gore in LOTR.

With the host of "Political" crap going around I think developers will push the gore as far as they can (however detailed) to obtain a "M" rating. If something like the "Hot Coffee" incident plays any role then I'm sure there will be some reservations as much as I disagree with them. I believe the gaming industry is in discussion about a more detailed specification for the ratings system. (Seems to me that the game ratings system is better then the Movies but thats our taxdollars at work go figure).

I think the "M" rating falls into the catagory that covers the "gore" we hope to see in the next series of say a Resident Evil game but seems the Senators need something other then the war to debate over :) The last thing a developer or publisher would want to do is have a game with an AO (Adults Only) rating. Look at the GTA San Andreas, I can imagine when a game comes out with more realistic graphics that show detailed headshots, dismemberment etc. (Not to mention nudity in games)

Buy them games up quick. The way its been going lately you might end up with some great collectors items in console games :)

I doubt it, the only reason hot coffee has gotten as far as it has is because GTA was already a very big issue. GTA Hot Coffee is like a police officer FINALLY after years of tracking a suspected criminal FINALLY they slip up and like a ravenous wolf the cop decends. There's a lot more violent games out there than GTA. Not to mention it's a publicity stunt on JT's part that other politicians are latching on to. Come 2008 there'll be more useful topics to exploit, like the prenial abortion issue.
