Could the Project Offset Engine be better than Epic's?

A little off topic but, I wonder how great games will look if what we seen for GOW for X360 and UT2007 for PS3 will be surpassed. Can you imagine the sheer beauty that will be amongst us. It just makes me smile. :D

Do you have any doubts that first gen games on next gen machines, developed around a multiplatform engine, will be surpassed by other games released later?

Do you think GOW will be the best looking game in the whole life of X360?

GOW is only the tip of the iceberg, like it should be.

Well yeah l-b that's what I was trying to say. I think GOW will be the worst-great looking game on the X360. Remember Wreckless for the Xbox? Many games look WAY better, but when it came out it straight blew people's minds away.

There will be a day when we look at GOW and say "man if that game came out now for the 360 it would be all the great". And this is exactly why my expections are high. Some people months ago (not just here but everywhere) always said don't get your hopes up or don't get your expectations to high. I never understood that.

I take one look at pretty games on the PSone (i.e. GT2) and then that a good look at games on the PS2 (i.e. GT4) and realize that if my expectations aren't high then I don't need to buy a next-gen console.

I'd just like to suggest to those who have not seen the video for Project Offset, one may want to check it out...... the video is more impressive than some of the screenshots, IMO

If I remember correctly the UE3 engine has already been liscensed by quite a few developer houses already. I thought I read somewhere that MS was also praising the UE3 engine and working with them to integrate XNA to help as well in certain areas.

Does anyone have info on the the number of liscensing for next gens consoles already? Say for UE3, Doom3 engine, and Source etc? I think EA now owns Renderware is that correct?

Im kind of wondering if MS will ever produce a 3D engine and why they havnt at this point? They have XNA and it would seem to me a great progression if they are developing one and have it work seemlessly with XNA etc. I'm pretty sure they have the capabilities and talent to pull it if they wanted to :) It could be cross platform from Xbox 360 to PC as well. Just a theory though

AS for the Offset engine it shows promis but like many have mentioned its going to be the tools, flexability, and support that will really help push it to the forefront. Not merely the graphics potential itself.

I'm sure some of Microsoft's inhouse titles use their own 3d engines? FlightSim maybe? but yeah, I'm surprised MS hasn't come out with a middleware engine for 3rd parties. Seems like a pretty logical move. Maybe it has something to do with remaining impartial with regard to DirectX/XNA
