Is the Canal Street a real place, as in the series Queer as Folk??

Never watched it but there is a canal street yeah, and its like a Mardi Gras every day down there.. pretty cool, not that expensive either. Just a shame my GF dumped me the day after I went out there the last time :'(. So I don't have the fondest of memories, but still I seem to remember qutie a good night.
