Comparing Heat Output Between the 40GB and 60GB PS3's

Just to point out, I am by no means a professional in this genre, so if I made a mistake or two, let me know and I will correct it!

I think you did very well. Although I did have to correct one spot where you said the GPU and CPU were visible in the lower left of the second shot, when it was the PSU! :p Thanks a lot for putting this together though. I can't wait to see if you can get your hands on the camera again so we can compare more consoles!

This is very interesting to tell us the distribution* of the
heat dissipation. That is, more Cell, more RSX, and how the heat is
carried away. I find these pictures really neat. Thanks!

*To determine the console's total heat dissipation, you only
have to look at its power consumption, as all power is converted to
heat in one way or another.

as all power is converted to
heat in one way or another.

I might be wrong, but I don't think that's true. It depends on power efficiency.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_factor

Let's say you have a device which draws 200W out of a socket. With 80% efficient AC/DC convertors, your device will be using 160W for work and the rest will be transfered to heat.

If I'm wrong, please correct me. :)

Great article.

Still it makes me wonder about those people who kept insisting that RSX should have been G80 based so with 680+ Million transistors that PS3 60GB would be spitting fire and the 40GB with the 65nm GPU shrink would have been almost as cool as the G70 90nm 60GB PS3.
