Ceramic White PSP in Europe.

well, the ceramic whites have not been officially introduced to NA, AFAIK. you can extrapolate from there re Europe : )

Does it have compatibility issues? :p

Actually, yes. UMD (movies I'd imagine but games?) and the action button is a different "shape" (e.g. the X not the Square - or something like that).

Really? What's wrong with the UMD? Why on earth do Sony change their hardware/settings when they juse give it a paint job?

Are you drunk, or what is this trying to say? :) How would Sony change the shape of UMDs only for the white PSP, make them out of some shapeshifting morphic material perhaps?

He's saying there's a UMD compatibility issue, and ALSO an interface change so to perform an action instead of pressing the X shaped button (shape being symbol on the top) you have to press the square shaped button (of course all buttons being round, and really meanig the identifying symbol)

But what kind of UMD issue? If UMDs don't fit in the drive you couldn't use the thing at all. Any software issues I'd expect sony to fix via firmware updates, or if all else fails, warranty returns.

Well, even though you were (very) clear in that you were interested as to when it was being released in Europe, I think he's just pointing out that if you import a Japanese white PSP, you won't be able to play European UMD films as they'll be encoded for a different region.

Is Ty talking region encoding or compatibility issues (like Silver PS2 - hence my remark in the first place)

Hehe, I could have been clearer but I meant Regional Encoding (which is why I wasn't sure about games - "games?")

Btw - this is just what I gathered in passing - i.e. I don't have anything definitive to prove it.

Steve at [H] is giving away two of them I believe from his "give away" site (that's basically what it always seems to me) and has said that you cant play UMD movies and the action button is different. I'm guessing its an encoding issue with UMD and whatever they decided to change with the action button.

UMD movies have always been region coded AFAIK, and if the white PSP hasn't been launched in N.A. yet that means the PSPs are japanese - hence you need to buy japanese UMD movies to watch on them. So it's not any kind of incompatibility issue or anything like that.

I've always dreamed about moving to Sweden, but I gotta ask, is everyone there like you as far as personality goes?

I imported a white PSP from Japan to the UK. PSP games are region free so no problems there.
UMD movies share the same region coding as DVD so it's region 2 for a Japanese PSP, which is the same region as the UK.
English menus are available on initial setup as well.

jap psp's run eu UMD MOVIES (well games , are regionfree anyway) so import one from japan ;)

whoa this thread is funny. :p

there are no problems with the ceramic white psp. japanese always had their action buttons different in their playstations. their circle button is our X button. this is because of the firmware, if you switch to NA firmware on the psp that problem goes away.

the movies in NA psp's are encoded just like with japanese psp's. we cant play their movies, but they cant play ours. but im pretty sure if you put on NA firmware this problem goes away.

some of you guys are making it bigger than it is.
