I dunno last time i looked the xbox was close to the ps2 size . Neither are as small and compact as the cube though.

That's the thing. Sony did such a good job designing PS2 that it looks smaller than it really is. When I think of my PS2, I don't even think of the smaller lower section of it. Design goes a long way, and I agree that Xbox2 needs to improve over its predacessor in this regard.

Some of the perception on size had to be influenced by the X-Box gamepad footprint. The X-Box pad looks like a large chunk of plastic and the PS2 pad has a more elegant sculpted design.

As far as inovation goes though, Microsoft did trump both Nintendo and Sony by having clickable thumbsticks. I'd perfer to have two shoulder buttons (ergonomically curved like the Gamecube pad) and then the two paddles triggers (I've grown to really love the X-Box shoulder trigger buttons) underneath those. The quad shoulder button layout by Sony is good.

By clickable thumbsticks do you mean pushing down on the thumbstick acts as a button? because I can assure you my ps2 does that.

My bad then, I never noticed it on the PS2. I hardly touch my PS2 these days. All the games I end up playing on the Gamecube and X-Box. I'm pretty sure the Gamecube doesn't have clickable sticks though. I must have really missed the boat on this, but when did the Sony get clickable sticks? Starting with the PS2?

I think the only game that has used the R3/L3 that I've played is Dark Cloud 2, in which it was used to center the camera.

I don't see PS2 being huge, even with the HDD...

I don't find the Cube particularly small.
IMO it was a big mistake by Nintendo to go for an external PSU, especially considering that they are tooting the portability of the hardware as an advantage specific to GC .
N64 IMHO had the perfect solution. The PSU was slotted firmly in little bay on the back of the console, so you could easily dismantle if it burned out, but it never was in the way. I don’t see why they didn’t do the same thing on GC.

The gamcube is a smaller foot print than the ps2. Its not as long either. It may be taller but that hardly matters .

THe external powersuply works very well for a portable system . My car kit just plugs right into my cigar lighter . Works very well .

I havea cube in my car for when we go on trips and what not .

I also have my normal cube with the 5 inch screen and the battery pack which is still much smaller than my sisters ps2 and is much more portable .
