Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - looks astounding!!!

Well, Scently for me it is absolutely not - must be a personal preference thingy.

I am now in chapter 4 or 5, not sure. Game is still great and gets better and better - I am astounded about all the cool ideas, bosses and settings so far.

My only problem is indeed the combat - it does not work very well for me. I already bought a lot of new combo stuff - but it just does not fit to my combat/play style.

Why do I have to hold a button in nearly all combos? I like to fast-input my combos, speed is what I prefer. But holding down a button in the middle of a combo, and then have to wait until animation kicks in and is finished, where I just have to stand still - is not dynamic enough for me!

I like the aspect of the light and shadow magic - but it is kind of alarming for me, that I still use the first standard [] combo + dodging after playing this game for so long.

What combos do you guys use? What is effective?

I just got some crazy error... totally wiped out my save and I was on the last boss with almost all the gems collected and almost all the combos purchased. Just need one more playthrough on paladin difficulty to clean up some loose ends and get the platnium trophy... and now its all gone.. WTF!!!

Now I have to start all over again... really discouraged now ( -__- )

Konami’s revealed that it is in the process of working on a patch for the PlayStation 3 version of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow in order to fix the widely-reported save bug that's been plaguing the game since launch.

The bug in question is particularly troublesome, in that it completely deletes saved game data.

Currently on Chapter 11 now and the game is fantastic! I'm thinking about going back and picking up some of the older PS2 games, did anyone play those?

Do you mean the older 2d games? If so then Castlevania Symphony of the Night was epically good at the time, still worth playing if you haven't.

Yeah, Symphony is still pretty good and available on both consoles (PS1 ROM on PSN though) LOS is closest to Rondo of Blood than Symphony of the Night, which emphasized on RPG-ish elements.

As far as the PS2 games, Lament of Innocence is worth a look. Granted, you may be frustrated by the repetitive environments but the combat is solid running at a smooth 60fps. Very nice soundtrack too.

Anyway, LOS is my personal GOTY, no contest. I loved the old school, no holding your hand type design, the flow, the incredible art direction, and the music. The combat is without a doubt the best one produced by a western developer surpassing GOW's by a mile. I can actually do cancels and despite running at a lower frame rate, the controls felt more responsive than GOW3's.

The environment details are pretty much comparable to the pre-rendered backgrounds Capcom used 8 years ago for the GC Resident Evil games. It's gorgeous.

Not a screen shot, just a pic I snapped of my TV.

Well I finished it and I was blown away by the conclusion. Can't wait for a sequel.

Yes I am interested in checking out the PS2 titles since I've already played most of the 2D games, with the exception of a few of the DS releases. I'll probably also pick up Order of Ecclesia and Portrait of Ruin.

I just bought this game after finishing Gow3 but i'm having a hard time getting into it. Perhaps i expected too much but i do hope they continue to make 2d versions like Symphony

I don't remember exactly how or why but I found this picture on the Internet time ago, probably searching for a movie or something like that, nothing related to Castlevania at all, and I thought you might be interested in seeing how similar the guy in the photo looks compared to the main character of the new Castlevania game.

He is the spitting image of Gabriel Belmont, or vice versa...

^I'm not seeing it. Gabriel's facial features are entirely different.
It's odd.... He is just the same to me. I don't remember the exact pic of the game that reminded me of the main character in Castlevania compared to that Jake Gyllenhaal photo, but when I first saw it the thought that immediately crossed my mind was how it bears a very close resemblance to him.

Also I couldn't find the exact pic I was looking for, but maybe you'll like these to compare:

I'm pretty sure Grabiel Belmont is not inspired off him but they look so similar, at least to me, that I wonder if their inspiration while designing the character came from him.

Lament of Innocence is mediocre to decent back in 2003, Curse of Darkness is crap, neither one is worth playing.

Picked this up before GT5 and only played an hour or so. Finally took a break from GT5 and started playing this again.

Game is great! I was expecting it to feel a lot like GoW, but it's different in many ways. Gameplay is fun but the story doesn't really interest me all that much so far. Visually, it's very impressive; among the best I've seen on console. Framerate is a little annoying though, but playable.
Highly recommend it if you haven't picked this up yet.

Q: How long is this game? I've been playing for 3-4 hours and I'm only half-way done chapter 2!

Ya, I'll probably end up finishing right around there. I too did quite a bit of back-tracking to find items.
I think I have 3-4 chapters left and I've been playing for around 15-17 hours.

The more I play, the more I'm enjoying it. It's like a mix of the original DMC and GoW III (for me anyway). I really like the character progression and gameplay. This is among the best TP action games I've played. Both the visuals and sound are very nice, too... very consistent. The story telling and cutscenes could have been better, and some of the levels were really frustrating. But overall, this is one of the best games I've played so far. Surprised how much I'm enjoying it.

There are two DLCs coming out, one of them slated to arrive this month. Can't wait!
