Buying an ipad2 in the usa and bringing it home

Hello.
My father Is currently in the states on business and I thought I would take advantage of the currently weak usd.

Does anyone have experience with this? I know I need a 3G version from AT&T to get it to work in norway.

Do i need an american iTunes Account or can i use my old one?

The GSM ipad2 has all the GSM and UMTS frequencies save 1700 MHz UMTS so it's world-capable. I don't know if it's carrier-locked to AT&T though...
