Business Approach Comparison Sony PS4 and Microsoft Xbox

Also, that's for the Amazon UK site. It does not reflect the state of the US!

In the US, the Xbox One is 6th!

How does an item that isn't even available to consumers even make the top X sellers of 2013? Even more so when the link states "Amazon Past Best Sellers" I'm always amazed at just how many preorders exist for any product, and how they outsell products that are shipping today.

that's pretty bad if it's accurate.

however i have not kept up with uk charts and currently ps4 is 5th and xb1 is 9th, which doesn't imply that type of discrepancy. my guess is glitch.

in most wished for ps4 is 1st, but xb1 has two sku's, 3rd and 7th

ps4 is 4th on the 2013 chart.

arguably uk is xbox's best market, even better than usa. x360 recently overtook wii to become the best selling console of the generation there, which it has not yet done in the usa.

No, that just means that the Wii sells worse in the UK. :p

The best sellers to date take into account cancellations\returns as well as 'sales'.

Whilst the current top 100 is also affected by the stocked quantity. The PS4 fell off the chart at one point but that was because no more pre-orders could be made as Amazon had run out of virtual stock.

The launch day PS4 stock ran out a week or so back. The only SKU left is the regular 'order now get it sometime' edition.

I think that is where the 7:1 ratio rumour came from.

amazxon uk (that we are discussing) doesn't seem to make a distinction. they just have a ps4, that i can tell.

amazon u.s. does as you describe.

Nah, they had two ps4 sku's, the launch day one (which I pre-ordered) and the vanilla one which is still there. It's just that the launch day sku sold out within a day or two. So long ago, in amazon terms, that it has dissapeared from the top 100.

Well, now I can preorder the Xbox One through Microsoft Store (I live in Denmark). I cancelled my other preorder to get it through Microsoft, maybe others did this as well, meaning Amazon preorders aren't representative of the actual number of preorders.

Edit: This is advertised on the front page of the Xbox 360 home screen. Should boost sales.

Rankings aren't cumulative, they are relative to some interval (I think last 24 hours, updated hourly).

Ah. Makes sense.
My point of course being that pre-orders through Microsoft Store probably won't appear in any public statistics at all. Could be hard to get the full picture.

True, Sony isn't taking pre-orders for the PS4 itself, only through 3rd parties.

Yes the pre orders they are taking on dash on Xbox 360 won't show either

That's not true. Unless you consider the Sonystyle store to be a 3rd party.

True however it appears they force you into a rather hefty bundle at this point requiring two games or accessories. A bit much really, especially if the biggest advantage of the PS4 is its price point.

Console holders, digital rental solutions incoming

Likely a good reason why games are now divided up piecemeal so you don't have to wait a day before playing.

Though I'm not expecting actual game demos (downloading 15GB+ for a 48 rental seems wasteful) but expanded game demos. Pay $5, get to play the first 3-4 hours of a game. Really like it? Buy the rest. Multiplayer-focused game? Pay $5, get to play for 48 hrs.

Problem is, most publishers are going to try to get sales first. So rentals may not be available for a few weeks after release.

Because if some gamers can complete a game over a weekend, they don't need to buy. Or not have to finish it but play enough to get their fill.
