No worries. I think we'd all like more product/sales/revenue/profit breakdowns from companies!

Not 360 versus ps3. The market consisted of 360, ps3 and Wii.

yes thats what Im talking about

360 - ps3 - wii (shipped in millions, at the end of Q4 each year)
    Q4 07 - 17.7 10.32 20.14 thus less 4:1
    Q4 08 - 28.5 21.1 44.96 thus less 4:1
    Q4 09 - 38.7 33.51 67.45 thus less 4:1
    Q4 10 - 50.8 47.91 84.64 thus less 4:1
    etc

Apart from at the begin (due to the xbox360 launching a year earlier) at no stage did the 360&wii have 4:1 greater marketshare than the ps3, let alone the over 5:1 that you claimed

The Wii + 1 HD console vs the remaining HD console and PS4 vs Xbox One (with or without the Wii U) marketshare comparison doesn't make much sense any way.

Last gen there were basically two markets rather than one market. The Wii market and the HD console market. The competition between Nintendo and the other two is nowhere near as direct as the competition between the other two and the balance in the marketshare has vastly different effects depending on how it is divided between the consoles. If the split was Wii/360/PS3 60/20/20, both HD consoles would have been ok, not great but ok. Now if the split was 20/20/60, the 360 would have been in serious trouble.

I agree but it was quite a tough decision to take, imagine the public reaction from the hardcore gaming crown on the web if MSFT announced something that would fit that description.

Ofcourse. So the XB1 couldnt have been anything but a traditional console with extra functions. There isnt much MS could do to sell it to other consumers. So they should have invested more on performance and taken out the HDMI IN. They could have kept the kinect in every box and sell it at break even. At least people would have known that both consoles pack the same performance but the XB1 is a bit more expensive because of Kinect and its related features. Now they pay for a monolith that performs less and is more expensive. The weaker performance at higher price overshadows kinect.

Titanfall bundle announced too, for the same $499

    http://news.xbox.com/2014/02/games-titanfall-special-edition-bundle

    This is disconcerting though:

Microsoft, you need more than a "quick" boost. If these indeed "sell out quickly" it wont be any kind of medium term help for One's fortunes.

Xbone launched at a silly and uncompetitive price in the UK. Going over that 399.99 barrier was the wrong move.

It's like Sony with the PS3. They launched at £425 and then had to almost immediately back down under £400.

Hopefully they're just trying to drum up interest and a sense of urgency, with no intention of stopping the bundling if it goes well.

My guess a real price cut is coming in late April/May.

There will probably be enough all of these bundles for March. If you're interested in Titanfall, this is effectively a $60 dollar price cut. It's better than buying a $399 console and a $60 game.

I wonder how much that will cost MS? They must be desperate to try and recapture some market share in the UK, but is it worth upgrading to a XBone when you can get the same game on the X360?

Microsoft blinks first. I hope this price reduction will be confirmed world wide. Still nothing on the Danish launch.. sigh

Guess they'll be going for a huge push on Titanfall to try and catch up to the Sony fanbase.

UK and US market seems to be MS's biggest concern. But I wonder if the rest of Europe will follow suit with bundles and price cuts.

I feel bad for all the XB1 premium price owners...

I guess MS is feeling the heat from all sides (Sony, investors, gamers, etc...).

Desperate is good for consumers. Better now than later and since Titanfall is the only thing that is garnering the kind of buzz that the XB1 needs, they would be foolish not to push as hard as they can while they have some breathing room before E3.

I'm waiting for the Onion article "MS changes Xbox One name in response to negative sales, now known as the Titan Box." :)
