/me looks at my brothers' MTBs piled up in the back of family shop....that's worth some dough.
Definatley.
I reasonably decent bike can get very expensive very quickly. Mine is at the very cheap end of decent, I paid £450 for it 3-4 years ago, and recently spent £300 on upgrading bits.
If you start looking at full suspension bikes you are lucky to get a decent one for £800.

Each of those is around 1300-1500€ worth. I guess one is worth over 2000€ taking into account the handmade rims.

About a year ago someone stole my bike, I allways left it unlocked.

All I can say is... SUCKER! :)

The front and back handbreaks where broken, it looks wired up, but nothing happens if you push either one. You have to use that internal break(that only cheap crappy bikes seems to have) by going in reverse direction on the pedals. The back wheel was kinda bent and wobbled a bit. The seat was torn exposing a tiny nail that could rip your pants(it did mine, twice...). And if you hit 3rd gear the chain has a tendency to get stuck.(I meassured the chain once, it was 2 cm too long(!) after 8 years of never being changed and you could see typical wear on the teeth of the "cog wheels" of the gears due to the elongated chain not meshing well with the teeth)

And I didn't even have to go to the trash with it myself.
