Beyond the current OOTB features like AA and AF

Image Sharpening (NV)
Everything on screen becomes sharpen, including textures. Excellent for Quake 4 or other games where you see lots of metal objects. Too high setting may display shimmering on certain objects. Works everywhere.
Gosh, I am really out of date. Where can I find this feature (I have a NV card, can't find such a thing anywhere in display properties)? How is this being done (LOD bias thingy, maybe?)?

It's entirely a 2D/output thing (enhances contrast between neighbouring pixels), and IMO, utter crap, though it might help somewhat if you have a really poor VGA out. I've seen LCD screens with that option in OSD, too.

I use it on this CRT on top of a quite blurry ClearType mode (on purpose of course).

:?: More words, please. . .

He probably means that the D3D10 requirements are already that high that there isn't much headroom left for additional features.

I have a high quality Viewsonic and I use DV set to about 1/2 of a notch. I think it works very well.

Well either way i liked Image Sharpening (IS) a lot in Quake 4.
Metal objects really looked so damn realistic when i used IS.

I doubt it works outside of 2D and overlays.

well....still....DVs great
Beauty is in the eye of the Beholder :p This DV thing has created more holy wars than anything else; glad to see this thing finally over with the X1000 series.

Trust me, it works everywhere on my 6600GT. This includes desktop, video and 3D games (OGL and D3D). It's pretty cool if you don't overdrive it. Though even overdrived amount of IS creates interesting results (more interesting than useful though hehe).
Lower values can make washed out textures look detailed to some degree.
I'll probably test IS in Tomb Raider 3. Rune and Quake 4 gave pretty nice results, though these two use much higher res textures than TR3... We'll see.
To bad you can't capture DV and IS effects on screenshots since they are post-processing effects and done purely in the end on GPU before outputing it to display.

I was even wrong for the overlays. If it would apply a post processing sharpening filter in 3D applications even a slight portion would create quite a few nasty aliasing and moire effects.

I never saw it being operative neither on NV40 nor on G70; better doublecheck if it's really the case or just your impression.

How is it over with the X1k series?

As far as i know ATi unofficially promised something similar to DV, but nothing like it so far on Radeons...

You may add to the list of stuff : 2x quincux FSAA on Nvidia carrs.
it works on my geforce4, no pixel shader works involved (contrary to using smartshading for blur); the blur is indesirable in most cases but in far cry at 800x600 I find it helpful.. it's low res anyway, and sharp lowres jagged nightmare isn't that interesting, looks better with the blur.

I got pretty nice results by using More Blur in UT2004. Objects far away looked like they're out of focus and those close looked very normal. The map with desert canyon theme looked really awesome.

AVIVO in the X1xxx series includes the equivalent DV controls...
They do say that a picture speak a thousand words right? :)

I am surprised many people still haven't picked up on this.

Maybe it's just me.. I don't remember where I've seen the screenshots of it.. and I don't remember many reviews/reviewers mentioning this as much.

I believe it was introduced as part of the whole AVIVO update in 5.13.. but I don't remember seeing it on any major website when they had their article of it. That's why people don't realize its there.
