Battlefield 4 official discussion/thread. [PS4,XO,PS3,X360]

This beta is running much worse on the same PC than BF3 final with same settings..

Seems to be optimized for 6+ cores too

Youtube title says Ultra. Both look underwhelming, imho, and the PC version still looks like an upscaled current gen game rather than anything next gen. At least I know that the single player stuff looks better, but ... hmm.

That building collapsing into the water is incredibly lame, by the way. It disturbs me to no end that there's no huge tsunami like wave that spils over into the streets. Sure it's hard to do, but then just don't design it like this - let it fall into the street instead. It looks incredibly cheap, to me at least.

Ain't that the truth. If game is going towards "real world" and realism angle, then we naturally assume that end effect would be like in the real world. And not movie kind, but something that Mythbusters or shows like that would demostrate. Modern hardware is powerful enough for all kinds of simulations that were previously impossible for supercomputers. do few fluid dynamic simulations, then create "close enough" algorithm for the game. AAA games have no excuse. Or like you said, skip it some other way.

Also games shouldn't forget huge debris/smoke cloud. Temp (or maybe even longer lasting visibility reduction) would be welcome change.

You guys are forgetting that this is still a ps360 game with a nextgen version also avialable. They can't do anyhitng that affects gameplay and cannot be done on the ps360.

The game still caters to themillions on ps360. Th enextgen audience is just a small extra.

Some PS3 footage. it definitely is beta code the way buildings pop in and out. I love the new spawn cameras which give u a live overview of where you want to spawn. I have to say their decision to cover the map in dust after the building collapse makes it look like a textureless map.

I'm passing on it, as I don't feel it's next gen enough for a $60 game, but my son will be picking it up. I'll wait for the version without the legacy ties to X360/PS3.

Holy Moly the game looks so damn clean even on my ps3 !!! First impression very positive, atleast in terms of visuals !!! But my ps3 froze 5 mins into the game.

But, boy, I was expecting an ugly game, this looks superb for a ps3 game.

EDIT: Gameplay is very different from BF3. Can't find my groove yet. But damn the game looks photorealistic at times. Definitely running at higer res than bf3 ps3 much cleaner and much more realistic graphics. Sounds are also mmmuch changed, it doesn't feel like bf3 at all to me. Almost everything feels changed and tweaked. bullet drop seems to be lesser than BF3, as I find myself aiming higher and missing. Also , it seems but not sure, but it seems it takes fewer bullets to kill. Frankly, I can't put my finger on it, but it feels more like old BF2 than BF3. I am not sure, why, but that what I feel. it could be down to sometihng as simple as sound and bullets to kill. I am not sure, but this feels like older BFs. Feeling good ! :D

But, yes, I am pleasantly surprised. i was expecting a samey game, this feels and looks brand new B) !

Early days yet but the Xbone BF4 demo is showing some truly awful controller lag.

In fact the feedback so far hasn't been very positive about the new iteration of XB controller. Hopefully it's just a software issue.

MS actually redid the X1 controller wireless standard to have 20% less lag than 360. So, yeah.

And I really dont see how X1 controller can be considered terrible by the same people who profess to love 360 controller since one is just a slight iteration of the other with no major changes. Yet I keep seeing these imaginary 360 controller loving, X1 controller hating people on the nets. It's pretty much not actually possible. Smells of fanboy...

Sounds like straw men wearing straw hats.........

I think it is mostly people's opinions after having used both the DS4 and the XB1 controllers. The biggest change between the two is with the DS4, with much tighter and weightier sticks and triggers, better rumble etc. The evolution of the DS3 has been built with FPS's in mind. And it seems to have worked.

The changes to XB1 controller are far less pronounced with a few alterations that are getting negative comments. Like the LB RB triggers needing a lot of pressure to engage and the sticks are very loose much like the DS3. They've finally fixed the d-pad though.

So it's not so much as liking the 360 controller and then not liking the XB1 out of principle. It's just that the DS4 is showing more positive improvements.

But like I said, it might be a software thing. Like games not using the rumble in the triggers etc.

Spent some more time with the beta on the ps3. Definitely everything has been tweaked, the recoil, soldier speeds, the animations, the bullet drop. Everything is different. my 2 years of BF3 senses are not helping me much here. All the sounds seems to have got more "bass" to them, sound very different from the treble heavy "open Space" soundscape of BF3/BFBC1&2. I am using the same headphones and the "Wartapes" option , as usual, but all the gun sounds have a distinctive bass to them now, a 'thud" when bullets hit. Changes the feel of the a LOT for me.

Otherwise too, the feel is completely different. Sometimes, I think it is faster than BF3,and feels COD-ish, sometimes it feels like BF2. I just can't figure it out, what exactly has changed :p !

BTW, there is an option for a "Veteran" control scheme in the menu which brings back Crouch /prone to R3 and takes melee to O. Use it if you have habit of BF3.

The spotting with R2 is a good move, makes it easier than "select" last time, but it is buggy in the beta. There were four soldiers near each other and the game just would not spot the other three, even when I aimed right at them.

Has anyone done my pixelcounting yet? cos it definitely looks cleaner and sharper than BF3. I am guessing true 720p now, and sub 720p for bf3.

I like th emap, BTW, especially all the verticality at almost all capture points. Especially at A and the one top of the skyscraper. The fights on top are really fun, I feel bad when people bring it down.
