Battlefield 3 announced

Unlocked Caspian Border server game-play. There are some visible bugs in the physics interaction system.

There are also complaints that bullet impacts on static objects have some weird lag.

It was like that in BC2 too, but only with explosives. The animation ticks for destruction seems to be infrequent and it looks weird. Seems like it is the same for bullets AND explosives in BF3 beta.

I was not to taken by the hype towards this game,
the videos I watched from the Beta seemed to me just a confirmation that it was just another boring (for me) COD copy, but wow,
this map from the video it's a totally different story, looks quite interesting and more like my old memories of what a BF game should be like!

now I'm just wondering if my PC have enough power to run this (even at low settings) with a decent framerate

anyone tested it on a C2D?

vice versa, can't seem to accept friend requests without the plugin? Anyway, you have a request of mine. Love battlelog as a tool btw, just not the interface and the content.

And, I read somewhere that they'll allow different soldier names come retail. (option to change soldier is currently disabled)

Okay I just spent some time under the ground at the first part of metro rush. Go to the rock after the A objective when you come from the defender side. Lie down and fall through the ground.

neliz, I had to go to battlelog site and accept your friend request there. It can't be done inside the game shift-f1. :(

Tunnel is one of the most impressive parts on the map.

your request didn't show up in battlelog in the first place :)

You are misunderstanding me, I mean you go under the ground geometry. You actually fall through the floor if you get down there. It may be the server I was on was glitchy, and I will try it again, but I went through actual geometry and I was under a rock.

The tunnel doesn't unlock until the second part of rush.

Played very briefly last night, few comments:

1) Graphics are very good, but metro isn't really a great showcase IMHO. It's overly aliased and since you're always close to various bits of geometry you really notice that they are fairly low poly. I can't help but think that the low poly rocks, etc. are mainly a concession to the consoles (to avoid very different art) as more polys are pretty cheap with deferred shading. The Caspian Border footage above definitely looks a step above Metro in artwork.

2) Deferred MSAA doesn't seem to work as well on my 6970 as it ought to in getting rid of flickering and jaggies, even in "real" geometry (ignoring alone alpha-tested stuff for the moment). Maybe it's just broken at the moment? I'm using the BF3 AMD drivers and it is beta though so who knows. Also note that the performance hit for deferred MSAA on ATI is higher than on NVIDIA, but I was expecting that. I think if this gets "fixed" or improved the game would look really excellent even at 720p w/ 4x AA.

3) Seeing muzzle flashes light the surrounding environment is amazing and a game changer. Makes "hardcore" mode or whatever where you don't see the nametags so much fun. No longer can you just camp out in some dark corner and shoot people and stay invisible. Totally awesome and realistic solution to stupid gameplay that usually requires nametags.

4) Guns feel good, input feels great, animations are wonderful. Getting dangerously close to suspending my disbelief on player animations alone. The game runs *very* smoothly when you adjust the settings appropriately.

5) Unfortunately, I regularly get disconnected and it doesn't record my stats (especially near the ends of matches). I assume this is the server going down... anyone else getting this? I unlocked the ACOG about 5 times last night and still don't have it. That's what betas are for though :) At least I can play online at all, which isn't always the case for new releases.

Overall I'm really liking it... no doubt it's going to be a great game.
