Meh. I'm annoyed that I want to buy a game I probably won't play for more than a few hours from a publisher I wouldn't normally touch with a 200 parsec barge pole whilst wearing a biohazard bunny suit, just so that I can wander around going "ooohh... pretty" at the graphics.

I'm still hoping I can get a better-than-console experience (frame rate, graphics, map size) on a very low end computer. I just can't justify the money for a real gaming PC. Stupid repi is a jerk, just for making me think about this.

    Sorry :)

A very low end PC (slow dual core with low-end DX10 graphics card) will not give you a better experience than console, it would be slower than the consoles.

You just have to think of it as a reverse job: every hour you play put some money away for new hardware.

Also, to my ears, Dice has the best sound design in the business by far. So you've always got that.

Thanks for the response, repi, but I still hate you ;)

I'll be watching the specs/benchmarks for this game carefully.

The "War Tapes" setting on Bad Company 2 is probably the greatest audio I've ever experienced in a game. Get yourself a good set of headphones and it's absolutely amazing. I'd actually be curious to see a talk on what improvements they've made to audio realism for Battlefield 3. I imagine there are some improvements, not just in the source recordings, but in the actual tech for sound positioning and other physical effects.

I'm curious to see how great the difference between DX10/10.1 and DX11 will be

I hope AMD can do some magic with their drivers for the HD4870, but they probably only care about their new series:cry:

You can't expect a better than console experience on less than console hardware. DICE is good, but they must still obey the laws of physics (I think)

EA offering a free game on Origin is cool, though I already own ME2 and the other two don't interest me much at all. Suppose I'll give Dead Space 2 a go.

The jets appear to move fairly slow. In some of that footage it looked like a chopper could have taken some shots at them- I'm aware that this is probably for the sake of game balance and due to map size limitations. After all you can't have jets zipping around at hundreds of miles per hour..

But what role will they serve? Anti-chopper? I assume they can bomb the terrain and take out land targets. If so, then what role do choppers serve?

I guess I'm kind of at a loss as to what niche they fill.

I've been wondering about the draw distance in BF3 for a while, and seeing this latest footage it looks pretty far out. BF2 seems to work well when you can't see people from miles away. I loathed the fog at first in that game, but later had to admit that it added to the fun.

I hope they implement a better way to kick griefers. Just tried two different Heavy Metal servers on BC2 and on both there were spawncamping TKers who'd blast your tank/chopper to near death soon as you entered it. I am a calm guy but the rage was building inside...

Will BF3 be supporting tessellation? My feelings are mixed on this. If done right it can add a lot, but if done wrong they might as well not bother.

They cannot use their compute shader based deferred renderer with dx10.x, so I would expect visible difference.
They use it for additional detail on terrain.

Crysis 2 really is the new poster child for failure in the gaming tech\PC gaming circles.

I'm amazed they managed to screw up that badly.

Edit: It may just be me, but I get vibes this guy is employing subtle sarcasm with the whole water bit. At the end of each page he's like "and then of course we have the water mesh underneath everything. Not visible".

    Jeez, what a joke.
