Batman: Arkham Knight [PS4,XO]

Great video. I just wish that for once, just once, developers would get some proper voice over actors, or at least try to push for more quality voice overs - with a few notable exceptions like Naughty Dog. In this video it's even more jarring. Poison Ivy sounds "like videogame". Not even like a cheap TV show. It's the typical "videogame voiceover". And it sounds awful. The first bit with Batman breaking the man's wrist also sounds so forced and just plain bad. But he sounds a lot better in his dialogue with Ivy.
Every generation we get big jumps in graphics, but the acting is still as bad as it was on PS1/2. For story-driven games like this, where characterisation is everything, they should put more effort into this. Very off-putting.

The first two games had pretty decent voice acting as far as I can remember.

Anyway going to get this for pc for sure. Loved the first two games, love to hate the POS called arkham origin, but this is made bytthe original developer again so I'm sure it's going to be awsome.

Btw looks like you can glide pretty far now without diving to regain altitude.

I think it looks like a really good game, and the graphics are great, but too visually busy for my liking.

That has always bugged me about the franchise. Visually it's exceptionally detailed yet also exceptionally poor at leading the player via visual cues. The sonar view is basically a requirement 90% of the time because the gritty, over-designed, high-contrast goons tend to blend into the busy backgrounds a little too well. The crunchy contrasts also have a habit of ruining depth perception for me. There's just no natural falloff in the distance.

It's a really common trait among UE3 developed games in general.

Some nice Gameworks effect at play here:

I've never been overly impressed with this games graphics but I must admit I'm starting to come around.

What, they don't add a billion more particles and tessellated roads?

Don't get me wrong, I love Nvidia GPUs... however I despise their GameWorks program. Doesn't do anything relevant for gaming IMHO, other than bolting on unnecessary (unnatural) performance hogging "we have it - they don't" effects.

I can understand why you think that about the smoke (although personally I think it looks good here) but I can't see how the same can be said about thinks like HBAO+, TXAA and PCSS which are more subtle effects deigned to make the scene generally more realistic (or less aliased).

There are some exception like HBAO+ and PCSS... because they do look great in GTA V, especially at 4K. TXAA I don't care so much for...

I notice that they open in the frame on my phone. Maybe try right click open in new window for now, and I'll force that later.

That worked, but the content doesn't display either.

I see the icons for the url and youtube, and a frame for the video (no video though) and the links are only displayed when moused over.

Clicking on a link removes the 'content' until refreshed
