This is pretty interesting news. Bandai wanted to merge with SEGA back in the day. This never panned out.
I am glad Namco is doing this, as it should bring their profits up. There could be Soul Calibur action figures across store shelves and also Tekken. The different tie-ins would be cool.
Nintendo had the possibility of buying Bandai, but they settled something with the largest shareholder (CEO) in some way since the company was founded by his family. Nintendo went to become the second largest shareholder in Bandai, and this will no doubt affect the Namco/Bandai - Nintendo relationship.
I do wonder how much % Sony owns in Namco, not quite sure.
It was predicted a few years ago most of the major Japanese companies would merge due to the difficult climate. Sega - Sammy (bought out), Hudson - Konami (bought out on request), Bandai - Namco,... Others?
After the merger, Namco Bandai Holdings Inc will be Japan's third-largest toy and game business group after Nintendo Co and Sega Sammy Holdings Inc. (Kyodo News)

Konami changed their business strategy when they changed their logo. I think Capcom is the one that is in sort of trouble. We'll probably see them next, if they can't find any success in their software lineup.
