ATI no more

I doubt the name is going in the near term.

With some of the klutzy names AMD comes up for their products I seriously doubt thier ability to brand stuff anyway.

ATi brand names (Radeon, Xpress, etc) and the AMD system of numbering would do well. If its one thing ATi sucks at its coming up with a decent way of making model names.

Most obvious proof that the fella is talking through his ass is that he said that Radeon would be out for not having an "on" ending like other AMD product lines

ATI is recognized brand on graphics markets, AMD is not, they won't sacrifice the name, in near future (3+ years minimum).
I'm fairly sure even the chipsets will sport ATI name rather than AMD

If they release the top performing card, I doubt anyone would be concerned with the name.

TBH I think people would, I think they'd need minimum of 2 generations of top performing cards to "earn peoples trust" on the new brand on the markets.

Well it's not like they're coming out of the blue sky, everyone knows AMD and also most people will know about AMD buying ATI. People are reading papers, watching TV etc. This merger was all over the place.

it's not "from the blue sky", but AMD isn't recognized by rich average joes who have become familiar that there's "ati" and there's "nvidia" cards which they have to get for the bragging rights, they need to get to know the new name before really accepting it.
for anyone following the industry even a slightest bit it's no brainer, they know it, but the average joes, with rich parents or rich 'emselves, don't.

why are "rich" joes stupid or not informed? And i would counter with the CPU is bigger brag than the card.A 1000$ cpu is all over a 400$ vid...

Radeon is a MUCH more important marketing name than ATi is when it comes to the graphics market. Just as I strongly believe Geforce might be stronger than Nvidia for the graphics market also.

If this was not the case then how does Nvidia get away with not selling any Nvidia branded video cards? Every Geforce, to my knowledge, is actually sold by a third party. Such as BFG, eVGA, XFX, and so on who all use the Geforce name to market their cards.
