No, I wouldn't call the "Inquirer" confirmation...I'm pretty sure it was repeating information that was indicated elsewhere.

Sorry, but that should have said "evidence" instead of "confirmation". My bad.

(as you've just demonstrated, I think. :p ).

Umm, no. Before I posted I couldn't remember where I had heard where the 9800 name was first mentioned. I did a search on Google and found that The Inquirer posted the info on 2/20. I did further searching to see if somebody else had posted the information before they did and didn't find any evidence of it. That's why I credited The Enquirer. Then I just jokingly said that they were right after all. No need to read anything further into that.

EDIT: Ooops, I forgot to search B3D forums for references to the 9800. Evidently it had been talked about a couple days prior to The Enquirer's message by other sources. That's what I get for trying to post quick messages. I'll quit that now. :)

Wow, wouldn't that be a coup for ATI? Getting their R350 in that machine before they even shipped a version with the NV30.

You should have searched these forums. :p

People have been guessing 9800 since they heard of the R350 (here is one from November, and I'm pretty sure people have guessed that name even earlier).

And for evidence, this post from the 17th seems to qualify (I'm surprised the Inquirer didn't report on that, actually, except that they seem to have a problem with attributing credit for their "finds").

I'm not trying to blame you (hence the :p), just trying to illustrate the basis of my comments on the Inquirer....they strike me as (usually, not always) simply specializing in "believably cooked regurgitation", sort of like confidence artists do. :)
