Assassin's Creed - New Interview

Delayed a week in Australia :( At least I can wait until the initial hype dies down to get some solid feedback from gamers. Not that I was unable to just not buy it before, but you know how it can be at the game store when it's on the shelf and all.

Can't wait for the GS/Eurogamer review, so we can find out if 1up is just being off the chart or something like they seem to be with their Crysis review.

1up's review is good. There is a minor spoilers, nothing that will ruin the game...

1up review is bad as usual, lacks structure, any hint of professionalism and possibly objectivity.

It seems the main problems with the game are repetitive missions, weak AI for both combat and blend in stealth kills.

Now I can see why the reports said the PS3 version looked cleaner.

Maybe it's just because of HDMI as some have suggested, but it does looks really nice.

I'd put up with some aliasing (although there doesn't appear to be much anyway) for that cleanliness to be honest.

I just finished watching the GT review, and the visuals are sexy!

Though they did mention some cons about the game, that still doesnt deter me on getting it tomorrow afternoon.

I cant wait :D

Wow ! I didn't expect visuals like this from a third party this year. The environment and stylized graphics REALLY appeals to me ! For me, this is right up there with HS and Uncharted (CoD4 is good looking too, but doesn't look its best on my 720p LCD monitor :( ).

I will also be getting this. Didn't realize it's coming out tomorrow.

Meh...wish IW would give the PS3 the detailed textures they gave xb360 for CoD4. Still looks okay I guess.

It looks quite good, but I'll reserve judgment until I see a direct grab. There may also be other concerns like aggressive LOD, popins, AA, etc.

360 version however looks like native 720p with good AA.

Don't buy the game then. That would encourage them in the right direction if enough people do the same thing :)

I can't wait to check out AC's environment and NPC AI (compared to Uncharted). At this moment in my mind, the latter has the upper hand in enemy AI and environment depth... not just pretty pixels and lot's of polys.

Oh yes, aggressive LOD and popins :) I will know tomorrow.

So can Quaz count pixels from those screens? If so, I'll post screens in other thread and let Quaz start counting

*sigh* Anyone can count.

Quaz just happens to have a TV that can do 1:1 pixel mapping. It doesn't matter what screenshots are released

1up has given it a 7 also. (Apparently also with spoilers)

I had very high hopes for this game, and while it still sounds decent-ish, it doesn't sound like the unmissable experience I figured it might be.

IGN and GS reviews will be interesting. 1up figured opinion would be very split on the game, but so far most reviewers seem to be erring on the side of 7s, for want of a better phrase.

looks like theres gonna be some disappointed ppl
from eurogamer
I don't think I've ever stared at a credits screen in as much disbelief and disappointment.

i havent mentioned this game before cause i just couldnt see what the hype was about, garphicswise its nothing special

Metacritic disagrees with you. Not many reviews in yet, but the metascores are 88/90% PS3/XB360. Certainly not common 7/10s.

Furthermore, review scores are nothing like the be-all-and-end-all of game evaluation. Metacritic gives EoJ a score of 74, Edge gave EoJ 4/10, but those who like it are raving about it. You could probably divide EoJ scores into 'score if you're not into card games and are just after a console game to play' and 'scores if you're into the whole strategic card game thing' with very different scores.

Any low Assassin's Creed scores could well be 'as a reviewer I didn't like it much, so ain't gonna give a high score even if other people will absolutely love it.' This is perhaps why 'shooters' tend to score more highly, because a majority of reviewers have a taste for them?

Overall there's far too much attention paid to magazine review scores. They are both too inaccurate to be an applicable measure of a game's worth to different people, and yet specific enough that people naturally tend to treat them as a scientific measure. Juts because metascores can be put into spreadsheets, doesn't make them a meaningful dataset!

Ill be getting this tomorrow. I wanted the PC version instead, but dont want to wait. So I guess Ill play it on the PS3 for now, maybe get the PC version later. I hate playing 1st/3rd person shooters style games on consoles.

Just because reviews are in magazines, doesnt mean they are inaccurate either. Its your opinion that too much attention is paid to magazine reviews, who are you to tell someone which review to believe, and which one not to.

I'd think this game would be very well suited to the gamepad, more so than mouse and keyboard. I think other than your limited throwing knives, it's entirely platforming and melee combat.

"These big open worlds, which are fully interactive, do come at a severe cost on PS3. There is considerable texture pop-in and noticeable framerate issues. Playing back-to-back with the 360 version, it's obvious that Ubisoft did not devote enough resources to the PS3 edition. The framerate is considerably worse, so much so that it begins to affect gameplay in the later levels. You can get through the first two-thirds of Assassin with the framerate being just an annoyance, but it becomes more of an issue for the final third of the missions.'

Dang it. I really wanted this game. Framerates is a real dealbreaker for me.
