Alienware Ultrawide OLED on sale £660 on Amazon.

Anyway, point is @davis.anthony shouldn't have to play Starfield in a forced 16:9 aspect.
He wouldn't, Starfield supports 21:9 just fine. Davros has wider than 21:9 and thus plays with black bars on either side. He shouldn't have to either as rendering and UI should be designed to adapt, but it's rarely the case.

Yeah, the 32:9's are drop-dead gorgeous but damned if those resolutions aren't a pain in the ass for most games. The 21:9 seems to be the perfect gaming sweet spot right now IMO, although of course I'm a bit biased.

Just to prickle Davros's pedantry button further, no 21:9 3440 x 1440 display is 21:9. The correct resolution would be 3360 x 1440...

...which I discovered when playing Death Stranding on my new (non oled) ultrawide. It has teeny tiny black boarders at either side.

Never change Kojima. Never change.

Because 4k wasn't designed for the PC world, it's a cinema/film thing.

And in that world 1k = 1,000
Semi true though.

DCI (Digital Cinema Initiatives) 2K is 2048 x 1080 and DCI 4K is 4096 x 2160 depending on aspect ration.

4K UHD (Ultra High-Definition) is 3840 x 2160. Most just forget the UHD designation. 5K UHD = 5120 x 2880, 8K UHD = 7680 x 3840 and 8K Full Format = 8196 x 4320.

HD / FHD / UHD always follow the 16:9 aspect ratio.

Yes, 1920x1080 was called HD not 2k, 2HD would have been better (/Davros suddenly realises he is a marketing genius)
ps: Elon if you read this call me. Seriously "X" what were you thinking.

2HD would not be equal to 4K UHD (only half the amount of pixels) though. It should be named 4HD as it has four times the pixels 😅

And to totally nitpick 1920 x 1080 is called Full HD as 1280 x 720 was simply called HD. They replaced VGA (NTSC) which is 640 x 480 and PAL which is 768 x 576.

It's the most annoying game as just as I'm about to invest some serious time and actually play the game a new patch is announced and I end up waiting.

When 2.1 update drops I'm deffo going to start playing it properly then, promise 👀

Don't forget that they added SD to refer to existing resolutions like 720x480 and 640x480 (because why not? :p) as well when they added FHD and HD.

So I've just plugged the LG OLED back in as I've not sold it yet and damn, the image quality is horrible.

I knew the screen coating made things a little fuzzy and grainy but you don't realise how bad it is until you look at it after using a glossy display.

Screen size is still fine for me and I still appreciated its smoother motion clarity as it's 240hz Vs 165hz for the Alienware.

I mean, on one hand it's sad the LG is so bad in comparison, but it's also awesome you now have such a better monitor.

I actually bought my Monoprice 35" for work and now it just sits at home. Some day I will absolutely upgrade, and the Alienware is at the top of my short list of contenders. Thanks again for continuing to post about your experiences with it.

The new asus oleds will support black frame insertion. So the 480Hz oled will be able to do 240fps with BFI. Would probably look insanely clear. Sounds like it only works with SDR, which makes sense.

Awesome new but only works at 120hz according to the article.

Hopefully it forces other manufacturers to start looking at it too.

Apparently they're hoping to get it to work at 240 or higher before launch, but right now it works at 120 so that's what's confirmed, and I wouldn't expect more.

The 27" 480Hz also has a glossy screen instead of matte like the larger models.

Glossy is so nice, moving from a 240hz W-OLED with a matte finish to a glossy QD-OLED is night and day difference.
