Alien Isolation

Alien 3 has really grown on me. It's a great film imo. Sigourney and the entirity of the British cast are terrific in. Art direction and camera work is fantastic as well. I also like how bold it is. Killing Hicks and Newt right away? - the studio execs must have loved that. It's one hella bleak and nihilistic film, though, and most likely not what people expected from a follow-up to Aliens (which hasn't aged nearly as well in my opinion). It's certainly not a movie for everyone.

The only thing that's aged with the film are the VFX.

When I watched it the other night, I recognised one of the faces and it took me ages to realise that Danny from Withnail and I was in the film! Paul McGann's there too. It pleased my geeky side immensely.

I had a lot of fun reading through IMDB's trivia afterwards. Made me want to watch the rest even more. I just need to wait until my wife is out for another evening (and the kids firmly in bed).

So yeah, I'm very excited about the game. The devs seem to know their stuff with the whole universe, so it bodes well. I'm glad to see they're not going down the Aliens route like most games.

Really? I remember seeing Alien 3 at the cinema and it was, without a doubt, the most depressing film I'd seen (born early 70s) at that time. I like it more now, but sheesh

The original, though.. awesome. I don't think this is my kind of game, the very idea sounds like it'll make me a nervous wreck, but I might grab it if it's executed well. I thought I'd put survival horror firmly in my past then The Last of Us happened.

Done right it's an awesome genre and Alien is an awesome universe.

Expanded cut of Alien3 [much closer to Fincher's original vision] is vastly superior to theatrical version. That movie has the best character development of all alien films, and to this day I still enjoy it quite a lot. Sterling said it best:

It's definitely grown on me but if I was after any film to "get me excited" for the game, it'd have to be the original. Alien3 does bleak and hopeless really well but killing Ripley at the end...

Narrative-wise, having another film with Ripley, Newt and Hicks could just just felt like Aliens Redux. At a practical level the sequel was made six years later so the actress playing Newt would have been too old. They could have recast the role or just set it six years later with teenage Newt and contrive some reason they are all together again. But I liked it cutting free and returning to the original's vibe.

I believe I described my reason for watching Alien 3 as it being years since I last saw it. It has probably been a matter of months since Alien. I'm well aware that the game is based more towards the original, it just so happens that I considered it possible that 'The Company' might turn up in the game at some point. They don't play much of a role in the original film, so I wanted to remind myself of how this game might introduce them considering they're likely to be present somehow.

They actually appeared in the film wearing types of transparent gowns (some sort of acid protection?), so don't be overly surprised if the game follows a similar pattern.

I thought it funny that one had a giant VHS video camera, either that or a badly designed gun. It'd be hilarious (good funny) if the game included a VHS camera for authenticity.

Looks great and well made. I never really dug the Sci-Fi-outer-space-alien type of games, but this one captures my attention..

I much prefer the technology stylization of Prometheus compared to the low fi of Aliens, maybe it's a bit too retro and blocky for my taste which looks kinda cheap. I know they're trying to make us feel vulnerable but you can perfectly do it too with post modern styled tech. All these analog buttons and screens just don't make sense any more if to blend in with a story that's supposed to set in a post modern era.

Well, Prometheus is focused on a story where OWNER of a large corporation is traveling in his flasgship filled with best tech imaginable.

Alien1 was set in a old and rusted mining ship. Alien Isolation will be set in similar time-frame on a remote space station built by a smaller corporation.

Analog buttons still make a heck of a lot more sense than the Minority Report-ish holographic nonsense that's now all the rage in contemporary sci-fi. CRT displays obviously don't, but hey, if you wanna make an homage to a classic film you might as well go all the way.

I'm pretty sure they're playing the PS4 version (@1:20), judging by the DS4 controller. Anyhow, this game looks pretty good, have to keep it on my radar.

FYI: I haven't enjoyed a Alien game since the Atari Jaguar days. Alien vs Predator I believe...

The atmosphere looks great. Really, really great. But I'm lacking confidence they can drag a cat and mouse experience out for 12+ hours. I'm guessing there are elements to the game that haven't been revealed and I just hope they aren't cheesy.

Anybody here play a game called Iron Helix wayyyyy back in the '90s? Alien Isolation has me thinking about it.

Whoa, didn't know Dan Abnett was the writer. I like some of his W40K novels (Eisenhorn/Ravenor/various Horus Heresy)

Heads look funny. :p
They're all synthetics! :runaway:

Here's E3 videos, with news that Alien Isolation demo is ported on Oculus Rift! E3 visitors can test the game in VR. :D

The flashlight not casting shadows is very jarring for me. How is it nextgen still can't do this?

^ isnt the lack of shadow there because the light is coming out from the portable lamp on her head? I agree that more shadows would be great, but it's not a dealbreaker for me.
