It's the same console, only transformed into a portable one. The manufacturer is called Blaze, and they have confirmed that they are producing a NeoGeo handheld console which features games from the '90s.

Neo Geo X will include an SD card slot, A/V output, a headphone socket, and internal stereo speakers. It will also have a 3.5-inch LCD screen.

Blaze also confirmed the price at £500. With that price... give me 7!

This has to be a typo. Slash one 0 off and that would be reasonable. It's Blaze after all. They also made that portable Mega Drive (emulator) for 40 bucks, and I'm assuming that this portable Neo Geo won't sport genuine hardware innards either. Heck, even if it did, those parts should be dirt cheap by now. 500 is more than the asking price for the actual Neo Geo system when it launched more than 2 decades ago.

The pre-installed game selection is pretty crappy too. (there are way better Neo Geo compilations available if you own a PSP for example)

Art of Fighting
Baseball Stars
Cyber Lip
Fatal Fury
Fatal Fury Special
Football Frenzy
King of the Monsters
Last Resort
League Bowling
Magician Lord
Metal Slug
Mutation Slug
Mutation Nation
Nam 1975
Samurai Shodown
Sengoku
Super Sidekicks
The King of Fighters '94
The Ultimate 11
Top Players Golf
World Heroes

Most, if not all these games have spawned at least one way superior sequel.

Perhaps they feel if apple can sell a flat rectangle for that price, why not us? Perhaps they can number the shipped units. They won't need more than 2 digits at that price.

Supposedly the "confirmed" price is just what some jackhole in a forum said he would pay for it. There is. O reason for a trashy Neogeo emulator to cost more than twice what a Vita sells for.

My favourites of the list are the original Art of Fighting, Fatal Fury, Super Sidekicks -loved playing this game on Arcades with Holland which had two Aces- and Magician Lord, a game that I never played but was enamoured of its colours when I saw reviews in console magazines.

Fatal Fury 1 was for some reason my favourite of the franchise. I loved the colours, the graphics and the original touches they added to the fighting genre. Fatal Fury 2 was also a game I liked to play on arcade machines.

I've never been a big fan of Apple but for that price I'd rather prefer an iPad than this handheld. Although with that money what I would actually buy is a Vita and maybe a Wii U.

That sounds like a plausible theory. I wonder who in their right mind is going to pay that price for a portable console like this one.

One thing is clear though, they are loyal to the tradition and the story of the Neo Geo, keeping the price it had when it launched 20 years ago.
