About to buy PS3 - help please

Dear all,
I am finally about to buy PS3, since I will get new LCD TV.
But I am a totally new into this.

1) Is there anything I should be aware of?
2) Is there any possibility the TV wouldn't work with the console?
3) Isn't 12GB HDD too low? I am about to play only RDR and MK9 at once at the beginning.

4)Connecting to internet is really only a matter of connecting to wi-fi router? There aren't any additional fees like for x360, right?

I will not be playing too much and I aim pretty much for RDR, MK9 and GTA V in future.

Sorry for so much questions.
Looking forward for your help.

Best Regads,
DZimmy

12 GB model has some access speed issues.

Nope, if it's a modern TV. Plug in HDMI and done.

No because the games play from disc.

Yes.

No. There's an optional PSN+ service for getting games, but no costs to play online beyond your ISP's internet connection.

Read this article on the 12GB model:
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/df-hardware-playstation-3-12gb-super-slim-review

There are some speed issues due the the very slow nature of the internal storage's write speed. That may affect games using the HDD as a cache, which GTA and RDR might well do. You can always put in any old 2.5" HDD if you buy the caddy separately.

If you can I would go for a model with HDD. I got both RDR and MK9 for free through the Playstation Plus service and have them both on my HDD, and that's over 12GB right there. ;)

You can get some crazy bargains on 12 GB PS3s (as per the DF article), making adding an HDD to a PS3 much better value. There's very little use for many gamers in 250+ GBs of storage on their PS3, so an old 40GB HDD lying around means the cost of HDD is the cost of the caddy.

You have to buy the HDD caddy separately for the breadbox PS3...? Wow. Talk about pennypinching.

So a 12GB version where you add your own drive, how does that work with the 12GB?

I had no idea you could upgrade it, are there 3rd party caddies?

I just read up on it, upgrade with a HDD and the 12GB Storage is disabled. No unofficial caddies yet. Interesting considering i have enough 2.5 drives around and the need for more PS3 godness with Netflix,Bluray, DNLA,Youtube and Games...

I don't think so. But search youtube, you'll find plenty of videos showing how to add the HDD.

No 3rd party caddies yet.

You buy the caddy, plug in your hard drive, and the PS3 automatically copies everything from the 12GB flash to the hard drive. Once that is done the 12GB becomes unavailable (unlike the Xbox) and you only have the hard drive available.

Being so close to a PS4 announcement maybe you would want to wait and see what they're offering.

PS4 also won't play PS3 games so yeah. If someone has waited 6 years to buy a console, they probably aren't a big fan of random $60 launch titles.

Doesn't RDR require an install? I'd say a 12 GB system is a limiting thing.

Does MK9 require install on PS3? Might want to check that out.
