5 bullshit PS4 features

I upgraded my PS4 with a 7200rpm 1Tb HDD on day 1 before I'd even first booted it but it's desperately needing a migrate option where you attach a new 2.5" in a caddy over USB it it just moves everything to the new drive you intend to put in.

The need to two drives to migrate is not user friendly.

I just did the upgrade myself. I backed up to my new drive, plugged it into my computer and copied the backup files to a temp folder. Then I took apart the external drive, installed it in the PS4 and but the old drive back in the enclosure. I copied all the backup files back to the external drive, plus the firmware restore file and performed the initialization and restore. Took a little extra time, but the copies aren't too bad if you have usb3. I also deleted some game installs to reduce the backup/restore time on the PS4.

Couple questions.

The x360 and PlayStation 3 introduced turning on the console by using the controller...a very convenient feature which relegated the console power/reset buttons as initial boot up or very rare turn off/hard reset usage.

You mean to tell me you still get up, walk all those inches of feet, touch the power button then walk all the way back to your couch, bed, chair and then grab your controller?

Dust build up can be curved by using ancient technology like dust covers (they were from the age of VCR players!!) And keyboard vacuum cleaners.

Powerless is scary as hell not just for your sensitive Hard Drive while in use and system js saving or accessing.

Do you have a properly rated SURGE protector? Don't confuse it with a power strip or some cheap store thing labeled as such...do some research because they can help save your tech.

Also have you considered a UPS power supply back up? PC users rely on these things because of attempting to prevent any HDD corruption from powerloss. If your house has it bad that way then I suggest you should invest in helping protect your electronics console/laptop/PC as once you become aware of powerloss you actually get a chance to stop the game, exit and set it to turn off properly.

Since last gen these consoles are not like the old consoles...you can't just say "oh I'm bored let me just press the power off button without even exiting the game or saving then properly set to turn off.

Also have you considered a 7200RPM Hard drive or an SSD?

@Akumajou

Unfortunately (old) PS4 also have the ability to turn itself on and off without being commanded, without being touched, without any human near it.

Many of the problems listed are reasonable and I agree with the criticism, they just don't fit the emotional response about them. Some are just minor annoyances related to very rare actions (power failures reboot time? Steps to replace the internal HDD?) or legal issues unrelated to sony, or security issues that cannot be solved easily, or things that would break current games, or require major changes.

The ps4 turning on/off by itself, however, is definitely a defective console, it never happened on my launch ps4, not even once. You should get it fixed.

@MrFox maybe not you but other people on the internet also got the problem. sony also give official fix on their support. its something like "unplug PS4 from power for an hour" or something like that

some stuff also works fine on competing platform but not on PS4

At launch, some genuinely had a defective ps4 and had it replaced under warranty. Some had the power disconnect work. Some had glass or isolating tables building static charge under the button. Some had loose power cable not inserted with enough force. Some had a grounding screw that needed tightening (assembly issue at foxconn?) This is a tech support issue. I don't know what you want us to do.

There are many things I want to ask for a future firmware, the best place seem to be in the share blog...

5 bullshit features? Well, I know one bullshit feature: the touchpad on the controller.

Don't know what they were smoking when they dreamt that one up, but it's completely useless.

Doesn't count as a feature really, but the overall design of PS4 controller is pretty bullshit, with all the nooks and crannies where dust and finger-grime accumulates... Yuck! Xbone controller has it sooo whupped, design-wise.

I like the console, but I do think two features are quite annoying. It makes just a bit too much noise and the bigger issue for me is the battery life on the controller. I mean it's manageable as I sit close to an electric socket and can charge it, but I feel a bit silly after watching 3 or so Blu-ray movies that ok I guess it's time to charge the controller again...

Some games like Killzone Shadow Fall and Witcher 3 make good use of the touchpad.

Dude, wash your hands from time to time! :runaway:

the PS4 HDMI+Opitcal audio is also bullshit in a way that.... It output audio to both HDMI and OPTICAL.

so I'm forced to disable my TV internal speaker to avoid double sound (from TV and from external surround speaker). This makes me need to re-enable internal speaker when watchin TV (luckily I almost never watch TV).

the language in their audio option is also pretty bullshit. It sounds as if you can select HDMI or OPTICAL for audio. But no, audio still come out from both.

EDIT
the gamepad speaker is also bullshit in the volume department. Its loud in Transistor, quiet in MGSV.

cant they add system wide volume slider like they already have for headphone, media, etc?

There is a system wide volume setting for the DualShock 4 speaker but some games just do their own thing.

Your claim is bullshit. Meta huh? ;-)

Touchpad, motion controls, are not used much sadly on PS4.
They should be mandatory or they will end unused.

I guess i played to much Meta Gear today:p

about each game, yeah its as if there's no standard :(

@Cjail
yeah, the LED too. Most game did no use it. But I guess, its more for the future (with PS VR).

Any pets or ethically sound but environmentally unsound electrical experiments nearby?

what? ... rubber leg is touching eject button and some rubber can be conductive and it takes like 5 seconds to remove it, so why not try it

I read the OP as 'I lost PT and am extremely upset so will nit-pick all the little short-comings the currnt OS still has'.

I am sorry for your loss, I would be the same...but having said that it's not Sonys fault is it.

No system, is perfect and at least Sony are listening and addressing these 'issues' - the biggest was the lack of storage for backups and that was resolved recently and we know they are working on changing your username name. All the issues will be ironed out eventually.
