I guess what you ment to say was: Is 4-bit CLUT textures obsolete?

Or did you really mean to imply that DXTC textures are also obsolete? (They are also 4 bit, remember)

Anyway, no, 4-bit are not absolete. They should not be used for all textures, that looks like crap. But they are perfect for monochrome textures, lightmaps and detail textures.

I would have thought my page explains that.
DC typically uses VQ (for 2bpp), whereas XBox (and GC???) has S3TC.
