360 VGA cable problems

My USB modem (DSL) uses an RJ-11* cable so that's a no-go.

Any suggestions/recommendtations?

*RJ-45 is the larger Ethernet/LAN cable, if I remember. Which is what XBOX uses.

Ah, I see...

Can't you take the box to a friend in that case? It's only for the update...

I wonder why they didn't offer the new update on the Xbox website like the BC file... it might save quite a few people a lot of headaches.

simplest way is go to somebodys home who has a ethernet internect connection, or try to buy a 40$ router/switch

But I'm not sure those work on the 360. :)

Damn Microsoft ...

For simplicity's sake, I need one that supports both RJ-11 and RJ-45 ports. Does such a thing exist? Or should I re-think my current PC>Internet connection?

EDIT: Sorry to be a PITA, but what about this:-

http://www.dabs.com/productview.asp...l&SearchMode=All&NavigationKey=0&v=2#infoarea

Features USB and Ethernet connection. Sounds like the perfect device for me without going wireless, but nevertheless I naturally want to ensure 99.9% or higher compatibilty... Any comments?

can you tell me WHY you need a usb port on your adsl modem?

they sell philips WIFI adsl(2+) modem routers here for 39euro in promotion.
dont use the WIFI part, you have a nice 4 port ethernet switch on the back and a adsl modem inside. just plug the telephone cable in it and tap one ethernet wire to your pc and another ethernet wire to your xbox360

If we're at it... has anyone had the chance to compare the image quality between the Premium pack's HD component cable, and a VGA cable, possibly on an HDTV (like an 13xx*768 LCD panel)?

yup i had. VGA cable is sharper in the edges but litle bit flat in the colors
(could be my hdtv [samsung 27t51])
component cable on my lcd tv: colors too saturated , edges where a litle bit blurry , only option is to choose between 720p and 1080i. the gave pretty much the same result on my TV

advise: but the vga cable , so at least you can set your output to the native resolution of your tv

Seconded. I've tested both on my (1280x720) projector. The VGA cable has a more stable picture.

It's not a very big deal, but enough for me to get one. FWIW. ;)

Thankyou all for your help on both accounts. Regarding the networking, I've ordered a nice new ethernet router. Now my only concern is that my AOL software doesn't scream "incompatible!" at me when I plug it in...

first of all GOOD LUCK .... and next.. Well come back here if you still have problems ;)

Yes, any brand ethernet cable should work. Just connect your modem directly to your 360 (you might have to unplug the modem and let it reset and come back on before connecting it to the 360) and you should be able to connect to XBL and download any updates. Also consider investing in a Switch (about 20-30 bucks) if you don't want to invest in a wireless network.

Thats not the case with all ethernet modems, i have to connect to my PC and use internet sharing via a crosswire cable.

As for the VGA cable i wonder if the 360 won't support 1280x1024 because the display driver assumes that if you can't support 1280x720 you wouldn't be able to support anything higher.

You can bypass the AOL software and use PoEEE settings to connect to the net. (unless you like the software  that is )

it has all resolution from 640x480 up to 1360x768 after a small update.
if you cant display it, your screen/tv will turn black and readjust himself after 10seconds.

Well, it looks like I'm back already with this one...

OK, so I bought a SafeCom ADSL modem router (with an RJ-11, RJ-45 and USB type-B port). Drivers installed, RJ-11 cable into the port (from ADSL filter, that is), USB cable hooked up, and law and behold the router's ADSL LED lights up promisingly. BUT I can't get online yet . The 'Ready' LED is flashing, presuably this means something isn't right (the documentation really is terrible, btw).

I say AOL's either incompatible with the device as is stands, or a BIOS/firmware update (the router, that is) is in order.

You know I've tried doing this several times before, but to no avail.

All suggestions welcome.

1280x1024 is much higher than 1360x768. Official specs say top resolution is 720p so I wouldnt be surprised if 1280x1024 cannot be displayed. Is there even an option to run games on 1280x1024, has anyone been able to run games on this 5:4 ratio?
Are resolutions changed on a game-basis or is this something you change in the bios?
to ken: why arent you using the original VGA cable?
