[360] Splinter Cell: Conviction

I agree the environments look a little bare, though the explosions looked good.

Was the shooting QTE-like? It looked like he was marking the enemies and the shooting was automatic. The first melee scene in the bathroom also didn't look like game play with the camera moving all over.

I'm just saddened that Sam Fisher only learned to shoot his gun AFTER leaving the NSA. Or maybe the NSA gave him gimped guns, just for the hell of it.

I do wonder if explosions will really look that good: i.e. will we actually see windows being blown out by player-thrown grenades according to how they drop, or will be it an environmental/situational thing?

I downloaded the gameplay trailer off the marketplace, and thought it looked great. Could use some AA though.

Thought the lighting is pretty good but the flat textures on most of the environment really hurt the overall look of the game. It's inexcusable for such a highly anticipated title to be lacking in that area especially when almost everyone does texture streaming now.

Texture streaming =/ HQ textures.

Plus, they're not flat. They use normal and specular maps where needed.

I'm not sure but was there this kind of negativity around other games without uber hi-res textuers like KZ2, R&C, etc...?

Texture streaming will most definitely give you more detailed textures. The Normalmap they used for the environment surely did not do a convincing job of showing depth and detail. Perhaps like people suggested here, low res maps?

I was just stating the obvious here, no need to derail but KZ2 did have really high res normalmaps though.

Looks Okay to me! The earlier version shown looked completely new and Next gen like, this could very well be a Jason Bourne or a James Bond ! Where's the trademark Sam Fisher ? Where's the 3 green eyes? Where's my protagonist ?

He wont use nightvision goggles now, he is a superhero. He can climb walls better and faster than Spiderman now.

I'll wait for Direct feed gameplay before saying anymore. i want it to be good :) !

But what is that :Mark the light and the man and Sam kills on his own" ??? Why not just make a game that plays by itself  ! Makes me feel like a turn based game, where all u do is specify what to do. This is a stealth game not Valkyria chronicles :( !

You wouldn't believe the trolls in Uncharted 2 thread. ;)

Anyway, gamersyde gameplay video looks awesome (marketplace?), as long as it's not completely automated it may very well be a great game.

It's, however, very difficult to judge the tech without knowing the scale. Plus pretty much no one does realistic looking indoors or even close up (particularly when everything is under shadow) urban outdoor environments right.

Very limited amount is not enough to put it in the stack with the games having truly high-res textures on average.

LOL, not everytexture most be accompanied by a detail map

But in any case, could you give some specific examples? I mean, what textures are bad?

On the other hand, I'm very pleased with their lighting solution. AO + Indirect lighting FTW :p

IQ is pretty good as well.

496MB HQ video.

I agree it looks nice but one part that stood out for me was when he was climbing the wall and the textures lacked detail due to bluriness. Though I think there maybe was a problem with the textrue streaming system. Btw is this coming for the PC?

Actually that high res video shows it more fair, some parts ahd bland textures and others better and there where parts with very good texture detail. IMO looks like the MGS4 texture fidelity or better. And that game was approved IIRC! ;)

From what I've observed it's more than enough to justify a consistent high res textured world save for a piece here and there. But the point I'm making here is when a game protrude the low res texture or flat surface too much then it's something significant to point out.

The game is not going into the direction I was hoping for ... the trailer suggests a game far more violent than I care for. Understandable though and I think it'll be a pretty decent commercial success.

I find the graphics very very good. I'll play this on PC though, of course. Now.. is it just me or do they have realtime ambient occlusion... everywhere?

I think you should take into account the amount of variety in environment. AC had very repetitive texture patterns which allowed for higher res textures.

Are you saying yo/they are trolling? I don't understand this comment nor its relevance.
