[360] Splinter Cell: Conviction

Rainbow Six Vegas wasn't actually UE3 either, I think?

R6V was confirmed using UE3. It was an early build, earlier than GeOW I think, with quite some in house adaption, making Ubi the first to actually have a UE3 game.

Before crashing and dying a horrible death and getting restored oh-so-partially, BeyondUnreal's wiki had Scimitar linked with UE2.5 (an adaption from Splinter Cell Double Agent's engine)

Now it's removed. Maybe the folder structure on PC wasn't exactly like UE2.5, but some devs do pack level data into big blocks instead (AC actually utilized that as an antipiracy measure from its early leak in March so it might have been intentional)

[And I do have to say, Scimitar's way of shading, rather low polycount (wrt anything else during the same period), and alpha texture AA quirkiness are REALLY similar to UE2.5.]

Splinter Cell Conviction can be completed in 12 hours

Creative Director of Splinter Cell: Conviction, Maxime Beland, has revealed it'll be possible to complete the game in around 12 hours, in an exclusive interview in the latest issue of OXM.

Interesting. Looks like the Mark feature is limited to 2 targets relatively close to each other. If so it can be a fun and useful tool.

I'm still not fond of this whole Fischer as a rebel badass. I prefered SC 1 and 2 where he was this really cool steallth operative. /sigh.

I may give this a try though if nothing else is out at the time.

Regards,
SB

Sigh...most of you people still don't get and understand Splinter Cell Conviction. The reason why Sam is a rebel badass is because his own government betrayed him and he is out to find the killers who murdered his daughter. Also, if you payed attention to what the dev's have said, you would know that stealth and Sam using cool gadgets is still in the game. You can play the game how you want, whether its all stealth or a mixture of action and stealth. Its completely up to you. It's funny how when a developer gives you freedom to play how you want, people start bitching and complaining about it.Jeez...

Unless you've actually played the game, you know about as much about it as SB.

There's a new Comic con trailer at Gamersyde.

Curoiusly, the look, or rather the feel, of the graphics is reminding me a lot of KZ2.
Could this game be using defered rendering on the X360?

Haven't seen this new video yet, but it could be the lighting implementation that's giving off that feel i.e. spherical harmonics & light probes. Deferred would limit the complexity of the material component though.

The game got a release date - February 23rd in the US, 26th in Europe.

Here's the TGS trailer:

I think it's somewhat underwhelming, but the gameplay sequences shown in this video interview look really great and it seems Conviction takes a lot from the classic Splinter Cell formula:

And  at the explanation why goggles in Conviction are better than in older SC games.

It's locked at 20fps for whatever reason (2 frames out of 3 are the same). It's not apparent in the gamespot video which is solid but not perfect 30fps.

I was referring to the quality of the vid. Iam pretty sure they will clean up the framerate they have until next year.

It could be that they intend to use double buffering and v-synch without ever releasing v-synch and that so far they have fail to meet their performance goals thus the next available mode with this tech is 20FPS locked.
In this vid it looks like the render goes down to 20fps quiet often.

i liked the vid gfx wise looks good and framerate isnt that bad. Mark and execute with last known position can change gameplay for better imo looking forward to this one.

Gameplay footage is locked at 20fps, but it's apparent only in gametrailers video, they might have messed up with capturing settings perhaps? Videos from IGN or Gamespot didn't have these particular issue.
FWIW, the E3 vids didn't appear v-sync'd. Lots of tearing.
But very little in the latest vids.

I liked the way the game looks. Combat and stuff seems fun but what happened to all the stealth? The whole point of SC was sneaking around instead this guy is getting involved in huge gunfights. I hope there will be some situations where that is unavoidable gunfights but I really hope that stealth is still the major requirement of the game. I think the first 3 SC games were the best...Chaos Theory being the peak.

Yeah, I'm having the same issues as well. Good thing I finally got a great Batman game with stealth.

BTW, collector's edition spotted...?

  • Sam Fisher figurine
  • a code to unlock "exclusive" in-game content
  • a 32-page comic book that links the Double Agent storyline to Conviction
  • a making-of DVD
  • a code to download Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory from "Xbox LIVE Arcade". Most likely Games on Demand.

I like the free Chaos Theory code, but not interested in the rest. I'll probably pass.
