[360] Alan Wake - Still awake

I find it kinda ironic how a lot of the textures in Alan Wake (even when presented in bullshot form) can't match up to a game Remedy created some some 7 years ago. :/

Textures in 2003(Max Payne 2):

Textures in 2010(Alan Wake):

Found this at Gaf forums !

Alan Wake 2009

The dx8.3 version of 2005 looks rather outdated for today's standards.

The 2003 screenshot is from Max Payne 2 in gaf thread. It was just showing how Max Payne 2 had better textures than Alan Wake (both from Remedy) 7 years ago. Not showing progression of Alan Wake

Indeed. In fact, comparing it to a title like Heavy Rain truly shows how ahead of the loop Remedy were back in 2003.

The textures in MP2 were superb for the time and even today they still look great as you can see here.
However i m not gonna enter in a discussion about graphics who could run perfectly in a Geforce4 with 128mb of memory and how they are supposed to look better from today graphics.:rolleyes:

Btw, in the matter of the location in that AW screenshot i would have picked the better lighted screen over the darker one.

looks fantastic no doubt, my only concern is gameplay, i only hope gampelay wise bar is set as high as gfx wise.

I wasn't saying better graphics or nything. I just found an amusing post at neogaf which showed how much better the textures were in Max Payne 2, 7 years ago, by the same studio Remedy. Of course, the screen of Max Payne 2 is from the PC version. Maybe we could have seen similar textures in ALan Wake PC version too, but alas its no more.

Actually DX9 version and this is from 2005, you just picked a muted scene. Funny they had it running fairly smoothly back then in 2005 on the x1800xt/720p at gameshow. XD

I know that it was dx9 but it looks like dx8.5 with the flat lighting and texture surfaces.
I picked intetionally this screenshot as an answer to the clown from NeoGaf who made this comparison.

Yeah but that is due to TOD moment not lack of lighting. Thats why I posted those links that are from 2005 version and has HDR well pronounced at those TOD moments. Otherwise yes comparing a game with limited scene size vs one with big scenes and dense vegetation is not fair at all. There are far more surfaces in Alan Wake that needs texturing.

The new vids at Eurogamer were very impressive - definitely the best looking game on the 360.

My only concern so far is the screen tearing which is still present and really distracting...hopefully the retail version will not have such problems. :(

I don't think so... sadly but in the vid it looks more present during cut scene strangely.
