New PS4 Smell

Still haven't been able to login! Have 10 trophies in Knack now  Would they get attached to my PSN account when I, eventually, sign in?

Yeah trophies work the same way as PS3. They are stored locally and they sync whenever you connect to PSN.

I haven't been able to use my PS4 since Wed night owing to an invasion of teenagers. Resogun is quite the hit. Didn't have any issues with PSN Wed though...

Cool. I've finally managed to prise the controller from my kids hands, they love Knack (which is what I thought, kids get more from it than adults). Now they're finally packed into bed I can get on with Killzone, BF4, and CoD.

Just managing to get my account logged in, I think!

Noticed one weird thing, when we were playing Knack the PS4 was whisper quiet, but when we suspended it the fan became very audible!

Technically, suspend isn't yet available. The game keeps running in the backgound until you click option->close application, or eject the disc. Knack pauses the game, but it's still burning lots of power.

Do you have the disc version or the DD version?

If it's the disc version, next time you hear that noise, try ejecting the disc, just to know for sure it's not the drive sound. When exiting to the main menu, it tends to spin up the disc to get it ready to play again.

Logged in!

Same. All sync'd, stuff a-downloading, Vita synced. Sorted. All ready to play with tomorrow properly, although somehow I think I'll be taking my Vita to bed tonight

@tkf,

I'm curious how loud your BD drive is when a game is first inserted to install? My Made in China PS4 feels pretty solid and I've only had 2 game related crashes (one in BF4 and one in KZ), however I haven't had the system freeze on me once... it's been pretty solid so far. I just find that my BD drive is pretty loud when installing, which thankfully doesn't happen very often.

I've been working the PS4 non syop since this morning and not a single freeze. My brain is about to though, lol.

I played:
- Killzone (very little)
- Resogun (fair bit)
- Lego Marvel Super Heroes (very little)
- AC4 (fair bit)
- Need for Speed Rivals (fair bit)
- watched some streams
- Netflix (HDMI-CEC doesn't work confirmed)
- Flower

Hooked up the Vita and tried Flower, AC4, Resogun

Tried the face logon, voice commands, etc. All pretty much problem free.

Suspending DVD or BR playback isn't possible on PS4, you must quit the player completely to get back to the main menu. That rather sucks, I must say, as far from all BR titles support resume. It might even be a majority that don't, even many new blockbuster releases lack this.

Fortunately, at least my disc drive is pretty quiet. Most of the noise generated is due to poorly balanced discs. You hardly ever hear the motor itself, except when it spins up/down, and if the disc is well balanced the drive is actually pretty quiet on the whole. Seeks are less obtrusive than my old PS3 slim (which in turn was much louder than my launch phat unit.)

My BR drive is also noisy while installing a game, clearly audible from the couch with the room silent. I hear it when I start a game, then it seems to slow down quickly and it's silent soon after.

I tried to reproduce the battery test from neogaf. Leaving the controller idle in the main menu I got 16 hours with the LEDs disconnected, in two sessions checking every hour. There's power management somewhere in there. I discovered that the audio amplifier is disabled until a game enables it, and it's always on while the game is running. I don't intend to make any more tests. I maintain that disconnecting the leds doesn't provide a very significant improvement in gaming battery life. Just make sure to change the timer to 10 minutes, the default is off which is just stupid.

Came home last evening and set up - it does two FW updates, one for 1.06 and one for 1.51, so it took a while.
Could not connect to SEN, even the website was down at some point - although my Vita had no problem to conect to the psstore, so they must have different servers for Vita.
But I was able to conect this morning, so now i'm downloading resogun and contrast.

Ps4 sits right next to Ps3 - and it looks smaller. How in hell did they manage this? Imagine how PS4 slim will be in a couple of years...

Only played Killzone4 for half an hour - feels like playing CGI from a last gen game, but then I'm not a grafic whore, what do I know? Wish I had the time to play more, unfortunatly december is too busy at work.

I found that when minimal game data is downloaded it becomes almost impossible to follow the progress of the rest data. Especially when downloaded amount reaches some GBs and on information screen you see just 21/40GB is downloaded. I could monitor that it uses bandwidth only by using the router stats page.

Mine's pretty quiet, certainly quieter then the drive in my EU launch PS3. Sitting about 1.5 - 1.8 meters from the PS4, the only time I've noticed the BD drive is when I first inserted the Killzone disc and it began installing. Starting the game as soon as it had installed enough, the audio completely drowned out the noise of the drive.

Playing Blu-ray movies, it's very quiet. I guess it's running a 1x speed.

Very impressed how quick games partially install (enough to play) on PS4, either from disc or PSN.[/QUOTE]

I only ever heard it once, the first few seconds when I started Killzone for the first time.

If you have SF on disc can you tell me if you have all languages installed or the language you have installed is the same as the PS4?
