several years ago i remember reading an article in a gaming magazine that detailed an upcoming racer that was touted as having an engine that was almost single-handedly the work of one gifted young programmer, either fresh out of high school or a university or something like that. i want to say it was a ps2 racer, but it could've been ealier and may have been a pc title instead.

does anyone remember something like this and can anyone remember the game in question?

it could be. and i want to say it was a dutch or scandinavian programmer, so that would fit, along with the timeline.

the only other concrete thing i remember about the preview is that it showcased a red 1960s ferrari or something of a similar make. i know that it isn't much help, but i was hoping to find a screenshot in racer's archive that matched my memory, but it seems like there are only more recent shots

There was another racing game I remember which if I remember correctly was designed in Korea. It was hyped as being one of the most impressive racing games to arrive on the PS2 at the time.

I never saw it being released

Better known as the FAFRacer on NeoGAF as B3D very own Fafalada was part of the team that developed this game.

It receieved a UK and US release. I ordered it from Amazon, but the order timeed out before the game actually made it to the shops. I did see it on actual retail shelves.

I would still like to play it.

Kinda OT, but since it's mentioned in the thread...
Original DT actually got a pretty large extra-shipments later-on as part of Walmart bundle(in the light of that IGN review I rather not say how large though), so it should be easy to find really cheap (unless those bundles sell really well? :p)

And the title also got a "sequel" on PS2 and PSP, which is a small miracle given how bad things were at that place when I left.
