Which new car to lease?

it depends upon where actually. I once got a ticket in New Mexico for doing 162 km/h (90 mph) in a 55 mph zone and it was $28.

162kmh is about 101mph. I did 173kmh on an empty highway in Finland, and the limit was 100kmh, my license was suspended for three months and I had to pay 960€... The more money you make the more you have to pay for speeding tickets, my fine was on the low end for that offense, but some Nokia corporate executive or a NHL player could have had to pay like 100000€ for it... I'm not kidding BTW.

Yep my math was off. Highest I ever got clocked at was 90 mph in Colorado about 2 minutes after a run over 120 mph in a VW Corrado VR6. I was lucky. I did nearly 240 km/h in German in a Passat wagon on a business trip but that was a bit too much for my brain to sustain. 220 was okay though.

What about a Ford Mondeo? Top Gear are always on about how good it is.

Never quite got how they came to that conclusion.

The steering is heavier than normal yet doesn't give much feedback and the gearbox is horribly clunky. And the reported fuel consumption figures are from fantasy land. That said it does handle fairly nicely with good grip, and is comfortable and refined out of town, it just takes way too much effort to drive while in town.

todays top tip
if you live in finland, take a second badly paid second job and just decare that when you get fined...

The police gets their information straight from the tax office as a text message when they pull you over, and the information contains your total reported income, so a second job would just make it worse. The information they have is usually 1-2 year old though, so if your income has gone up just recently you can get away with small fine.

FWD in general = hp wasted

If your going to have FWD you might aswell buy the tiniest engine avaliable, your not going to get much fun out of the car anyway
One of the funnest cars I've ever been in was a 380hp FWD Saturn turbo. Around 2200 lbs. A ridiculous car, with ridiculous handling, and VERY fast. Oh, and 40 MPG. Not on the track tho... I'm not saying anything about FWD other than it can be very fun. In my dream garage there would be a few.

I find the trick is to be polite never argue with the police and admit your an idiot.

That and go so fast they cannot catch you to get an accurate reading of how fast you were actually going.

Obviously if they get you with the speed gun you are shafted though.

The police caught me once but they had no idea how fast I was really going so they let me off. (even though they said they were doing 100mph and I was still pulling away - not big or clever if any kids are reading  )

Well he had a speed gun and Yamaha R1, so changes of me getting away were smallish... :)

I was lucky once though about 5 years ago, when I had a 600cc yamaha FZS motorbike and at 3 am I drove behind a quite old Ford Escort station wagon doing 30kmh, I did it for a while and then decided to overtake it. I did about 80kmh and the limit was 30, but nobody there at that time, but it turned out that that Ford was a civil cop car... I couldn't believe it as usually the cop cars are newer and better. They stopped me and looked pissed, but they didn't have a speed gun and I heard some emergency on their cop radio and they suddenly took off really fast. I was standing in the middle of the road at 3 am with the helmet on my hand, looked around and could not believe that I got away with no penalty whatsoever.
