[PS3] Metal Gear Solid 4 *spoilers*

Jack_Tripper:

I think the difference between the dolls is that the Mantis doll controls the living, while the Sorrow doll controls the dead. Haven't tried using them outside the boss battle though, so I don't know for sure.

Ohhhhh...that'll be fun to play with :) These things just sit in my inventory useless now

:)

For crying wolf...I stayed down wind...and snipered all the frogs with my moisin to put them to sleep. I then found Wolf's location with night vision and started putting her to sleep...when she spotted me and came charging I'd throw a stun grenade at her and dodge out the way. I then made my up to a sniping position...and re-anesthetized the awakening frogs...and carried on putting Wolfy to sleep...

That was my way anyway :)

You're not doing something right - I managed this whole fight (on BigBoss Hard) without taking one hit. Admitidly, the first time through (even on normal) I took some damage, but I wasn't taking into account that I wouldn't always be punching and kicking - sometimes, you have to time your CQC move quickly enough when he punches after getting up.

Don't know if you noticed, but I've found six different animations for the CQC moves relative to where you're standing (or downed) when these little cutscenes take over. Something else, once you get used to the rythm of the fight - you don't have to wait for on screen controlls anymore. For example - one of the six CQC scenes is you downing Liquid and punching him in the face - it'll prompt you to press (R1 I think) when your supposed to be punching him - but you can time it correctly where as soon as one punch ends, you can bring another down (timed so tightly that the "Press R1" message doesn't even have a chance to come up

There's, I think, one CQC reversal for when you get knocked down - but again, it's a timing thing. This little section of the game plays more like a DOA R/P/S punch and reversal session than a toe to toe fight - but the sheer amount of detail and variety offered (for what's supposed to be a minute of gameplay, is pretty remarkable

CQC was one of the things chose to use a few times as possible, preferring to use stealth. I did use it during this fight though, but it didn't prove it self to be anymore effective than anything else. They should have explained all the moves you can do as some are unique to this fight.

Ya - it was a pretty fight, but probably the weakest moment in the game to me (which doesn't mean it was disappointing, but I guess I was just expecting it to be more involved. Very pretty in it's inception though - In BigBoss Hard mode, I managed to get killed and thrown out of Rex - Ray then comes over and stomps on you - was freaking hysterical!

I remember getting stomped by Rex in MGS if you got to close. When I used a cheat to make Snake immoral Rex would stomp me only to have one of those spikes break off and he wouldn't lift his leg anymore. So I got stuck and had to restart the game.

Ahh - here's the beauty of this game - I never though about hiding in the tanker - I ended up clearing out one of the towers and taking out Wolf with a Sniper Rifle from above - which was mad difficult as she kept using her rail gun to take out my cover (and the floor) in the tower where I was standing - an epic battle :)

So its more like the Raging Raven fight then, hiding behind destructable cover. I did see her take down some trees, but nothing else.

I dunno - this fight felt out of place to me for the reasons you pointed out above - there was CLEARLY only one way to complete this fight - and unlike the others, multiple approaches just didn't work. Thought it was a nice touch to have you start off "on the starting" and have to get out using the cyringe - was the dead giveaway to what to do to Meryl though - kinda wished they'd make you work for that a little more.

I'm not sure what you're saying about CQC being more difficult her than in the rest of the game - but I'll grant you that CQC is the experts approach to combat in this game - and it's mastery does take a while (even for those of us who cut our teeth on MgS3! I'm interested in the difference between the two dolls though - there's got to be a reason that there's two. By the way - Rail Gun is essential on this fight - the "zombies" are paper thin - when she's using them to sheild the dolls - this will go right through them!

I couldn't start the CQC. I had to wait for them to grab me and then counterattack.

Ya, this was an easy fight - but I hated vamp - so I must have gone through 10k Drebin points in ammo alone just punishing him over and over again! What do you mean about taking out the BB squad during the fight though - maybe I just didn't notice them there?

I should have put that separately. It has nothing to do with the fight, I just used the same weapon.

I think I did something wrong in this post. All the first posts are the quotes and below that is my reply.

This is the best game I ve ever played!

No other game has had so much attention to detail, so high production values in my book.

It touches my emotions like no other game and the world feels like it has a life of its own!
Its been years that I have enjoyed a game so much. I just cant leave it alone!

This is the only title that feels truly "next generation" to me. I played so many games on both platforms and they all feel like shadows of the previous gen. Neither Bioshock or Gears of War both games that I own, touch this in any way. I feel that every game I ve played to this day on current gen platforms is overrated next to this.

Anyways enough with my super excitement. :p

I have a few questions I d like to ask regarding the game.

I ve heard that I can listen to codec conversations through a bluetooth device. Is this true?

Also I remember a few years back that the game might have had some remote play functionality wih the PSP (controlling MKII?)

Has anyone tried it?

Also how many acts are there

Dont know has this been posted yet, but I just figure out how to make boss dances.
When in the beauty fight white room, equip ipod and play 'Oishii Chuhan Seikatsu'.
.
And somethings about Sunny,
when you're playing this song, open the menu and you will see she is dancing and singing too:LOL:

Its a shame that beating the game doesn't unlock a movie viewer like in MGS3. Now I have to re-install everything if I want to go back to a specific cutscene. I would have liked the option to install everything if I can spare the space on my harddisc.

Yeah, I am also dissapointed that there is no full instal option. Granted, I suspect Sony wouldn't want that as it would make their 40GB and even the 80GB drives to look rather small, and wouldn't be of any use to me anyway until I upgrade my 20GB drive.

I am too so angry at this install BS !!!
It is ridiculous and pathetic. 30% of time = install, 30% = cut-scenes, 30% = gameplay.
100% = Joke.
Total profanation of my all time favorite game series :(.

Slightly overreacting, I think. the install is a few minutes of many hours game. Yes there are lots of cutscenes, but how can that be offensive to you if MGS is one of your all time favourite game series? MGS is typified but its epic cut-scenes! As for your BRD comments, the install is 4.6 GBs, which pushes your remarks into the categoriy of trollage in my book, so I'll remove them.

Please try to apply a little realistic perspective in your criticisms rather than just give in to emotional rants. Thanks.

Yes I do overreact slighlty, it's because I really like this series. And those installs kill some of the expierience for me. It is like back in 1988 loading Road Race on my Atari 65XE all over again.
How about a petition to Konami for a patch allowing full hdd install ? It should be technically possible ?
That would cure my pain :)

install times are 2-3 minutes (initial install is 7-8 minutes), and there are only 5 of them throughout the whole game (including the initial install)... slightly overreacting is an understatement. yeah they are kind of annoying, especially if you fly through the game, but they aren't that bad at all.

and i agree... 20 minutes for the first act is quite fast... it takes me around 1.5 hours to beat the first act (skipping all the cutscenes etc.), and thats only because i already beat the game 3 times. the first time probably took me longer. mind you, i don't just run through the game, i actually look around for items/ammo/weapons.

Took me 3 hrs on my first playthru . second playthrough on big boss hard took 3hrs 50mins.....but thats just me !

Graphics 10+. I don't think I've played a game that has this much attention to detail and looks as consistently good. Some of the later levels art work was not my favourite simply because I don't care much for industrial design but the outdoor organic stuff was top notch.
Gameplay 10+. The first MGS that I really enjoyed playing all the way through and actually finished. The controls were initially confusing but once I got the hang of them I realized how good a job he did to incorporate so many options while still keeping them simple to use.
I loved how I had so many was to play the game and so many options at my disposal. I didn't think too much about how I played,I just played and whatever occured I dealt with it as best I could. I was struck with the fact that for such a deep game with so many options how smooth I flowed through it. I never felt like I had to play it any particular way and never felt punished for not choosing the devs way. Also I felt like all the options were well balanced. There were risks and rewards for each approach and they all felt balanced.

Some points I didn't like.
I wish he could have been more succinct with his exposition. Even Shakespeare wan't this wordy. You could see that he made an attempt to make the cutscenes interesting but at times I felt like I was being read to from an encyclopedia rather than being told a potentially interesting story.
The second half of the game where
you stop playing alonside the militia looses some steam for me. The second half get's too weird and science fictiony for my tastes. I would have liked to have seen the militia included the whole way through and seen them at he end alongside for my victory
The bosses were a bit of a letdown as well. Earlier in the game when you see them you get this ominous sense that you be fighting these badaas interesting battles, but they turn out to be very simple and well quiet easy. There visual presentation was far beyond there actual gameplay reality.

Great game and one I wil probably purchase at some point to replay many times and go for the emblems.
My biggest compliment is that this is a game that will likely make me shelf my Wii.
Games like this just highlight how far this gen has come and how much potential it has.

Played through it a couple of times.

Gameplay-wise, the best MGS ever. I would really like to see remakes of the MG and MG series based off updated visual and game mechanics especially the MGS 1 and 2.

Cutscene-wise, very good but too long and too many. I like the healthy amount of cutscenes that MGS series is known for but the times where the scenes are really long and on top of each other were mind numbing.

Story-wise. Good for the most part. Too much repetition to the point you would think that Snake was pretty clueless for a guy thats been knee deep in the storyline for 20 years. I think the series would of better been served by remaining more linear as all the obvious retconning ruined the continuity of the series and created a bunch of nonsensical premises.

Can somebody tell how Roy Campbell isn't a founding member of the Patriots or how he wasn't the first person Big Boss recruited when he went broke away for Zero? Also, Gray Fox should have been among the first recruited by Big Boss when breaking away from the Patriots.

Snake being a clone would have been obvious to alot of people as Big Boss was considered a national hero and a legendary soldier. This had to be one of the worst kept secrets in the series yet it takes Snake a decade after being recruited by Foxhound for him to find out. Question to Big Boss. Who in their right mind would send a clone of himself after himself?

The second worst kept secret has to be the Patriots themselves. Just about everyone outside of Snake and Octagon are aware of the presence of the Patroits and who is really running the world except the most important character of the series. Every antagonist of the Metal Gears series has known of the Patriots, yet it takes years for Snake to find out and he really never breaks free from their control. For all the dialogue Snake is forced to hear by his enemies, you think the line "You're working for the wrong side!!!" should of came up a couple of dozen times.

Don't apply to much logic, it will only ruin the story. And if your referring to parts of the PSP games stories not making sense in the overall story line, those should be seen as an alternate universe.

Alternative universe? Based upon who's authority? Alot of the storyline of MGS4 is setup and revealed in Portable Ops. Zero, Ocelot and Big Boss involvement in the establishment of the Patriots, how the Philospher's legacy ends up in the Patriots' hands, the origin of Gray Fox and the formation of Foxhound all take place in Portable Ops.
