This is no realtime demo, it's Blur studio's Oscar-nominated CG shortfilm... Where did you get this stupid idea?

i think he was just..ya know...joking...... ;)

The problem is, I've already seen this posted in another forum as a fact... No nextgen console will be able to do such visuals, Blur has a 100-machine renderfarm for calculating that stuff.

Have you seen the xylaphone demo from ATI? I think Xenon could easily render that scene as a demo.

I've seen it and the complexity is nowhere near Gopher. There's a lot of indirect lighting, hundreds of thousands of shaded hair strands on the gopher, lots of detail in the vegetation around... no, it's not possible for the current generation. Maybe the next one, but not Xenon or PS3.

Sure but the xylaphone demo was done on old hardware. A realtime demo of Gopher on Xenon will probably look the same as the offline rendered version to 99% of gamers. Of course it won't look exactly the same, but it will look close enough for the majority of gamers to not be able to tell the difference.

Could you please trust me on this one? Gopher is the absolute best Blur can do quality wise, and it's way beyond today's hardware. The fur is already too much of a challange... Then there's the whole look of that short, a result of multiple rendered elements hand-tuned and modified and polished in compositing - hardware accelerated rendering just can't produce this. It's not going to be recreated with a simple bloom filter and opacity-mapped polygons.

It's like, "hey, there was a private space flight last year, so this year surely they can go to the Moon"... there's some orders of magnitude in the difference here.

The "Xylophone" or Animusic demo is quite impressive, and it runs perfectly on my AMD64 3000, Ati 9600XT PC.

:devilish: videos then?

http://www.animusic.com/dvd-info-clips-1.html has video clips -- scroll down to "Pipe Dreams". I bought their DVD -- it is *very* impressive. Of course, with the DVD you can't change the PoV and zoom in on the reflections on the bouncing balls and things, like you can in the real-time demo....

Enjoy, Aranfell

It looks pretty cool actually except for that stupid looking round handles. If they made a retractable handle it would be neat.

that looks like some toy forfanboys5 year olds.

.........good decoy I guess. Could have fooled me!

Reminds me somewhat of a side standing PCengine....not too bad, but I would have loved it if they had styled it like a piece of HiFi so it'd fit in with the rest of my living room.

looks to me like a pretty solid case meant for travelling . I would suspect this is a dev case they bring around to show developers demos to try to get them on board and not actual finished design

Honestly, do people not know how to read?

Yes, but by the very nature of this 'prototype', the indication is still that they're erring away from making it look like a piece of hifi, which is what I was reflecting on........and at least my comment was on subject. Maybe if you'd remove your head from up your arse you'd be a little more capcable of making relevent comment rather than having an errant dig at others for the sake of having an opinion.
