"Xbox360 to have HD DVD... eventually"

I don't really see a big deal in not having HD DVD at launch, unless a few years down the road MS releases games only on HD DVD which I doubt. 99% of games can be put on 1 or 2 DVDs.

They first said this at E3, why the hell is it being reported as new again suddenly? Even the comment from Gates was over a month ago

No, Bill Gates only recently said this during the Japan conference. Before this Bill Gates said they're investigating the possibility of incorporating HD DVD or something else into future versions of Xbox 360. BG is confirming it now.

No he didn't. He wasn't even at the conference. The comments are the exact same comments he made that we already discussed a month ago:

that's true for the xbox and the PS2.

but isn't xbox360 an "HD era" console ?

i guess the HD FMV will need more storage space than current ones, as the other graphic assets of the game.

after making so much hype about "HD era" and the ultimate necessity of HD for next gen I think selling the first batch of consoles without ability to read HD media rather sad for the early adopters who must have sensitive to this message.

He doesn't need to be at the conference in person to announce HD DVD.

Nobody wants hours of HD FMV in next gen games...the future is realtime HD cinematics.

That's not the same as games will all of a sudden require vastly higher amounts of storage space. Compare console games today with PC games today. High-end PC games are much more detailed than any console title currently on the market, but they rarely consume more than a couple CDs, in part because they typically employ compression of their data files.

I believe that anyone expecting higher texture resolutions in tomorrow's consoles than today's PC titles will be mistaken. Storage requirements will likely not exceed even a single dual-layer DVD. In part also because it's a hassle for players to change discs. :D

I agree, PC gamming has been "HD" for years and still the games comme on a couple of CDs. And as has been sadi before, with the cpu power increasing all the time it is actually benefitil to have compressed textures and what not since it takes less time to transfer a small file form the DVD and uncompress it rather than to have to transfer an uncopressed texture...

Thread locked. Redundant. You know the drill...

Start a new thread if you want to discuss the disc space requirement for a next-gen title.
:D
