Note that DVD playback is also limited to 480p over component.oddfellow said:That sucks if it's true.
I'm picking up my 360 on friday. I have a 45inch HDTV television and I was hoping to use the vga cable as oppsed to the component conection.
However, if dvd playback is going to be 640x480, there ain't no way I'm gonna do it.
The native resolution on my tv is 720p (1280x960), 640x480 looks like a postage stamp on my screen.
Can anyone confirm this when using a 16x9 hdtv plasma/lcd as opposed to a pc monitor

I was responding to the statement about oddfellow's native resolution being 720p and that should the VGA out not upscale, oddfellow would just use component.iknowall said:Over component you get 720 x 480p not 640 x 480p like you get with the vga.
iknowall said:Sadly i have a confirmation that with the samsung Tv hdtv you get 640 x 480 over vga, and this is not a monitor this is a tv that support the 720 x 480 resolution.

It looks just a bit better than my reg DVD player. I never expected it to be upscaled since MS cleared this point a while ago. Regardless of what cable you use you'll still get 480P.
*Hope it helps. "
