Xbox 360 System Link

Ok, I want to system link 3 Xbox 360s for a Halo Reach day next weekend.

I've never done this before; as I understand it you can simply connect the three 360s via ethernet to a router and it will work.

I'm planning on using my Netgear wifi adsl2 gateway for this, now I was wondering if you could have two 360's connected physically to the gateway and the other one connected via wifi? I have one original Xbox wifi adapter which I can use for this.

See, I have two large HDTVs but they're on different floors so instead of moving a TV (or using a smaller monitor or something) I would prefer have a setup where a 360 is connected to each TV on different floors (and one is connected to a large monitor on either floor) all networked together.

Is this possible?

I believe it should work, although I've never tried it with a 360. It used to work fine with the original xbox.

I wonder if it would work over wireless if some of the systems are 360 S or if there are wireless adapters available.

From a gameplay perspective, wifi or wired doesn't matter (slightly higher lag on wifi of course, but for LAN play I'd think it'd be pretty much totally irrelevant unless your wifi network performance is terrible due to interference or whatnot...)

So if you have wifi dongles (or as mentioned, the slimline model) you should be all set. :D

Doesn't matter. One xbox doesn't know if another xbox is connected via wired or wifi as this happens on a level lower than software protocol in the ethernet networking stack - unless Microsoft put in a mechanism to specifically report this, but why would they? It makes no sense to insert artificial restrictions like that.

In that case, you can always just get an ethernet over powerline adapter. We used to use those over a friends place when LAN gaming to connect people in another room. Works quite well, and they are (or at least were) fairly inexpensive.

Regards,
SB
