Xbox 360 HD DVD Owners

Nine Inch Nails puncture Xbox 360 HD DVD add-on

Discussion of the issue on AVS Forum caught the attention of a Microsoft employee, who confirmed that the Xbox 360 HD DVD team aware of the bug and will be addressing it in an upcoming software update.

“We plan on shipping an update to the Xbox 360 HD DVD player in early to mid spring. In this update we will be adding DTS output, improved Audio, and improved title compatibility,â€￾ relayed the Microsoft employee, according to what he had heard from the Xbox team. “The variability there is that this is a software project and we are fixing/enhancing a lot of things and we want to make sure we get them right. So it is difficult to give an exact day for the update.â€￾

Great news to hear. :D

Children of Men is another recent title that is giving HD DVD owners a headache. Both owners of standalone machines and the Xbox 360 consoles report issues where Children of Men freezes or refuses to play, even after trying multiple, retail exchanged copies of the movie.
crap I just rented this to watch but since it's just the DVD version, I'll just pop it into the DVD player in the 360. BTW.... When are these B&M rental stores going to stock Blu Ray and HD DVD rentals! :(

Otherwise I have had no issues with playing media and sound quality has been superb on the HD DVD (5.1 Optical) for me. glad they are continuing to release updates.

Of course this update to the HD DVD has been known about and anticipated for several months on AVS.

does anyone know why it's doing that on Children of Men? is it from a bad burn or is it from high bitrates?

There are plenty of people who are not having issues with Children of Men, including myself (watched it just fine on my 360 add-on). Less likely an authoring issue and more likely a replication problem.

The best way to get a working copy of COM, according to Amir, is to call Universal and get a replacement.

Call Universal at: 1-888-304-0680
