XBOX 2 controller pics

That reminds me of the cheap thin plastic molds we used to make sometimes at school. It looks aweful.

Looks a bit like a prototype, maybe something SDK related ... a wired pad should be useful in a dev/testing/design environment.

I bet the final model will look better, and it looks functional, so it should serve it's purpose as a controller very well. Look's aren't everything :)

It looks like a good controller actually.

4 face buttons,
2 shoulder buttons ?
and 2 triggers ?

Is that right ?

According to Spong it's a near finalised design that was included with the dev kits.

They've been told the missing button is called the "Xbox 360 Button". Their source says the following...

SPOnG's anonymous source said:
"It gives you instant access, globally, from whatever you’re doing, to your Xbox360 menus. They’re going to show it at the E3 conference in all its glory, but in a nutshell, if you’re watching a DVD, you’re still signed into your Friends list, so you can still be invited into games, discussions and other Live events. You’re always connected to the community. It’s like the interactive button for digital TV. And this really is the key factor to bear in mind with the upgraded Live system. It will be a lot more like a digital TV experience, just more interactive. Microsoft is looking at the viability of Live competing with the set-top box and this Xbox 360 button in the key to this."

It was stated a while ago that the controller the 360 comes with would be a wired controller, same as the usb controllers they will be selling for cross-360/PC use - so this must just be a prototype of one of those.

I think it's kind of ugly too. It looks cheap and unfinished. Of course, maybe it is unfinished, hopefully the final version will look nicer.

Anyone else use WinXP Media Edition? This just sounds like all the fuss they made over "The Green Button" on the media centre remote control.........so effectively the Xbox360 isn't just a PC in a small box, it's a HTPC in a small box!

Controller looks fine . All controllers i've ever seen look fine to me . How does this look any worse than the hacked super nes controller we call the dual shock ?

Neither would make it in an art gallery

What do you mean by "hacked super nes controller" :?

On topic, I like the looks of the xbox360 controller in the pic, or rather I don't see anything offensive in it, looks very clean and standard design, which is good in a gontroller rather than something overly busy and glitschy and too many buttony.

The controller is a supernes controller with fins and two extra shoulder buttons (dual shock of course has the dual shock)

Its plain to see.

No controllers look great and play great . You get good controllers like the jap saturn controller and u get bad controllers like the xbox controller. Do any of these look friggen sweet ? No . Are you going to spend your time looking at a controller ? No

SO it doesn't matter as long as it controls well

Well, there's only so many ways you can design a button based joystick interface designed for human hands.
I don't understand why the Dual Shock is any different from any other console controller in that respect, and why you felt the need to again bring your PlayStation downplaying into t´his thread, being a mod and everything ;)
At least the Dual Shock doesn't name the buttons A, B, X, Y ;)

It doesn't matter what it calls its buttons . Its still the same basicly idea. A directional pad with other buttons .

I'm not bashing the playstation controller . It looks just like the superness controller. IF you feel that is an insult that is your problem . If you feel like i'm down playing it that is your problem.

I also see that you aren't upset that I'm a mod and said i think the xbox controller sucks .

Very telling about your bias .

No wait! The supernes controller is an imitation of the before proceeding NES controler!!!1 So in fact, all controlers are an evolution of the original NES controler!

And guess what Amiga's joysticks at the time, they must have looked between their pants while designing them and well, you get the idea. How bad are they?!!?!! What insane perverts!

When will Kids grow up these days? It's called evolution - all controllers suffer from it and at the same time, there are some that are quite good and some that aren't. There are others that look good and others that don't. Personally, I would like to have something that's confortable to use but also matches the console. The above white controler might get the job done being confortable, but me I don't quite like the colour nor the way it comes across in. If it's valid, I really hope it the console itself isn't in the same glossy white...

People havent learned yet that all console controllers after the Super Nintendo should have six (6) face buttons arranged in two rows on the face?

H-M-L - P = Row 1
H-M-L - K = Row 2

:devilish:

That is the flaw that I will forever find in new console controllers until they stop making Street Fighter games on consoles.

The original Playstation controller is so close to the SNES pad probably because it was the SNES pad that Sony were using during design and testing of the SNES CD drive (the unreleased forerunner to the Playstation). Sometimes 2 + 2 does equal 4. It "ripped it off" in a way I don't think I've seen any pad do untill Sega's Nights/DC pad layout became pretty much the template for ... well, eveyone else.

But so what. If an idea is good, others will pick it up and run with it even if the originator abandons it for whatever reason.

Nintendo gets credit for this, but why? Button layouts are bound to come in 2's. The Genny pad was an anomaly over the years with its 3 buttons. But to maximize usage of space without compromising functionality, two rows of buttons makes the most sense. Shoulder buttons (IMO) are simply an extension of the old Pong paddle's side buttons. It was the first controller, and it had buttons on the edges as opposed to the face. I see Nintendo getting credit for controller designs that predate them. Lots of the basic concepts date back to the PC and the Atari systems IMO. Nintendo optimized those designs some. Then Sega and Sony modified those. And so on. PEACE.
