Hopefully the final product will come in as polished/glossy a finish as these appear to, and that the console sports a similar finish too.
I don't think they could possibly make it more tacky. Since when did consumer electronics come with their plastic components coated in gloss varnish?

Well sir, at minimum, since the time the PSP came with a black glossy varnish.

This seems like the "ideal" HK.
2 triggers for those FPS/racing games
2 shoulders for pretty much everything else (specially Pro Evolution Soccer now)

the whole shape seems to be in line with the controller s, i personally liked "the duke" also, but prefer controller S, and it seems that sizewise it is more akin to controller s than duke..

I hope that the D-pad gets a little better, it was good but somehow the dualshock feels better.

overall.. very nice!

Some concerns though..
The wireless thing is nice, hopefully this will not change the rumble that much, controller s had the best rumble-effect of the 3.

And regarding to wireless, hope it is rechargable, meaning that you "dock" it somehow, either via a cord through xbox2 (and that you could use it with a cord if you really wanted to, while loading it) or some ways similar to this.. would be kinda cool..

E3 has the answers...

Yeah I'm thinking it may have a cord you can plug in, to either use it as a corded or cordless controller. That would be sweet! Too bad we can't see the top of the controller, as I'm curious if head sets will be wireless as well.

I'm hoping memory cards plug into the console directly, as there's no reason to put that on the controller.

I also hope to god MS is smart enough to allow the xbox 2 to be switched on with a remote control. If it has built in media center functions like modded xbox systems, then it would make sense to allow for a remote or wireless switch on.

HELL YEAH!
How many times I have cursed the remote controller for not having an off-button after watching a dvd...

here's the picture guys

Qroach, you might want to try http://www.photodump.com for hosting images - Brandon over on PSINext forums mentioned it to me, and I'm having some good results with.

If anyone wants to host pictures of a reasonable size for the forum then PM me. I'll put them on my website which has a decent amount of bandwidth.

OMG that thing looks like crap IMO, no design philosophy whatsoever behind it, it's just a plastic blob. White is SO not the right color for console stuff, blecccch! If it's genuine and the rest of nextbox continues this philosophy it'll end up looking the same ugly-ass POS as the current one. :?

Guden has an axe to grind? I really don't see how this is the same as what MS did with the current xbox. Infact it's 100% better then what they had before. I simply don't agree with your opinion that it's a plastic blob.

The color white is a fine choice with me, as long as it;s stylish. I guess you're not a fan of anything apple has made of the past 6 years? ;)

No I don't think Guden has an axe to grind at all. Although I agree that white can be a very good colour for a console or controller. IMO the colour isn't bad, its the sheen of the plastic and the shape, which I agree is like a blob. I never liked the XBox controller but it easily looks better then this one.

it's a prototype, I wouldn't worry about the "sheen". Prototype xbox controllers had the same thing, yet were released with a more textured surface.

the pictures are really crappy, as this controller has the same shape as the controller S from what I can tell (with the removal of the mem card slots).

not if they don't get their legal affairs in order. :D

otherwise its back to 1995 tech...................

hmmm ya know what I think this controller is a little smaller. It looks like the analog stick and Dpad are closer together then the current xbox controller.

Not really no. Pretty much the only reason I don't like the current box is because of the lameo CPU and the fact it's FRIGGIN HUGE and FUGLY. I'm still hoping both of these issues will be addressed in nextbox.

Don't agree at all. At least on that tiny blurry pic it looks cheap and toyish and plain BAD. Like a person with its eyes set too close together, this controller looks wide while the analog sticks sit close; it just looks BAD. It reminds me of a beached jellyfish, its shape sort of vague and undefined.

I guess you're not a fan of anything apple has made of the past 6 years? ;)
Fan of some of their stuff, because Apple typically makes their stuff look GOOD, and this...thing...simply doesn't. Controller S is far preferable from a looks standpoint IMO, and I sincerely hope this is a fake render. Besides, shiny plastic is poor from a comfort standpoint because it feels sweaty and greasy to the touch.

I also sort of hope it's fake because there's zero innovation in this joypad design, it's just a very slight modification of tech we've already had for nearly ten years or more, unless there's like hidden tilt/biometrics sensors or something built into it.

But Xbox has the best CPU of any console so far...

Take no offense, but those are pretty foolish reason to not like a console IMO. Obviously you're more interested in theoretical CPU benchmarks (even though xbox has the most powerful cpu out of the current consoles) and something that's pretty to look at, instead of playing games like the majority of gamers.

Sure Xbox could have been better looking, but imo who cares if it has games I want to play.

 talk about exagerating...

The difference between this and controller S are minimal. The removal of the memory cards slots, sholder buttons to replace the black and white buttons, the circle of light button, and a different Dpad. The shape of it is almost identicle to controller S, so I really can't see how you can say controller S is more preferrable considering the simularities. Also teh "sheen" is a moot point if it's a prototype. as I mentioned above and you ignored, prototype Xbox 1 controllers also appeared smooth and this was changed before release.

Btw, I don't see you complaining about the smooth plastic used on PS2 controller. Or the recycled dull toyish platstics used on the gamecube controller.

I also sort of hope it's fake because there's zero innovation in this joypad design, it's just a very slight modification of tech we've already had for nearly ten years or more, unless there's like hidden tilt/biometrics sensors or something built into it.

That's complete bollocks. You can see what's inside this controller? I don't need a tilt sensor in my controller at all, no thanks. I prefer something functional. If there's only minor things wrong with a controller, then you don't need to redesign it to add gimmick-ish features.

I can't help but find holes in your reasoning on this one... Its fine to say you don't like it, but when you throw out all sort of crazy reasons why, then it seems like you're trying to hard to find reasons not to like it.
